Autopia closed over the weekend after a vehicle derailed from the Disneyland Park attraction, marking the second crash in eight months on the Tomorrowland attraction.
Instagram user @hellena_hex posted a video showing Disney cast members pushing a red car out of a grassy area beside the track while guests evacuated the queue. “If you’re wondering why Autopia got evacuated today…because one of you can’t drive,” the Disney Park guest wrote.

Disneyland Resort has not issued a statement about the derailment. The attraction had reopened and was operating normally by the time of this article’s publication.
Second Crash in Eight Months

Before last weekend, the most recent Autopia derailment occurred in June 2025—the first crash in years. X (formerly known as Twitter) user @laughingplace captured photos of that incident showing a red car on its side in the grass beside the track:
First time I’ve actually seen a car derailed on Autopia. Attraction is completely shut down. #Disneyland

Autopia vehicles travel on a pre-set steel track, making it nearly impossible to steer off course. Derailment requires excessive force or a malfunction with the car, track, or side barriers.
Electric Vehicle Conversion Coming

Disneyland Resort announced in April 2024 that all Autopia vehicles would convert to fully electric by the fall of 2026. Disney hasn’t provided updates as the deadline approaches, but the upgrade would eliminate the gas smell in Tomorrowland and make the attraction more appealing to families.
The recent crashes raise questions about the 70-year-old ride’s maintenance and whether the track or vehicles need significant work beyond the planned electric conversion. Two derailments in eight months suggest potential infrastructure problems with an attraction that’s been operating since Disneyland Park’s 1955 opening.
