In a move that’s surprised many fans, the beloved Disney character, Figment, will be getting his own feature film, and by a stellar crew.

The last few weeks of the D23 Expo, and after as well, have been filled with exciting news and announcements about various new rides and attractions in the Disney Parks, upcoming movies and shows, and the return of various character meet and greets. Among these, one of the most significant announcements was the return of the character meet and greet of fan-favorite purple dinosaur, Figment, namesake of the attraction Journey into Imagination with Figment.

According to this new Deadline report, it turns out the lovable dragon is getting more, with its feature film.

Journalist Scott Gustin took to Twitter to share the news. Check it out:

While the feature will not be Figment’s first time on the big screen—he made cameo appearances in Inside Out (2015) and Toy Story 4 (2019)currently, the dragon is primarily the star of the latest version of the EPCOT ride Journey Into Imagination With Figment.

As Deadline reported,

“A Disney film is in the works featuring the character Figment, a small purple dragon who serves as the mascot of Epcot’s Imagination Pavillion in Orlando. The feature hails from Seth Rogen’s Point Grey with Pokémon Detective Pikachu‘s Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit set to write.”

Fans are primarily intrigued and fairly excited to hear about this new announcement, and some, in particular, think the announcement of the meet and greet is connected to this one. As @JDodge80 said, “So a meet and greet and a movie just to test the IP to justify redoing an attraction. I mean I’ve heard worse ways to test demo an investment.”

Figment was created in 1983 by Walt Disney Imagineers Tony Baxter and Steve Kirk, among others, the same year it made its debut in the EPCOT ride.
