All was not well in the EPCOT World Showcase last night! Apparently, a fire broke out at the back of the American Garden Theater in the American Adventure Pavilion section of EPCOT’s World Showcase.
The fire was captured on video by Twitter user “Disney World Tom”, who was visiting the Disney Park and said the following in the video: “A fire broke out this evening at World Showcase in EPCOT. It looks like it’s the back of the American Garden’s Theater. This occurred towards the end of EPCOT’s Harmonious, the nighttime spectacular that performs daily. No word on any damage or injuries at this time”.
This is not the first time that a fire has broken out on Disney property; earlier this year, a fire in the Magic Kingdom Disney Park resulted in emergency vehicles on Main Street at Walt Disney World Resort, and there was also a fire on set during the filming of the new Snow White adaptation!
Disney does have plenty of plans in place for emergencies at Disney Resorts or Disney Parks, since hotels and theme parks are obviously rife with potential dangers or problems that could be exacerbated by large Disney Park crowds.
Since Disney World Tom (@disneytiktok) did not notice any injuries, it does seem likely that the fire was dealt with in a prompt manner.
The American Adventure Pavilion was most likely fairly empty at that time of night as well, since everyone would be in other locations watching the Harmonious nighttime spectacular, so the possibility of injured Guests was probably further diminished. There was also no EPCOT Food and Wine Festival booth in the location.
In the video shown below, a boat speeds across the World Showcase Lagoon towards the fire and a Disney Park Cast Member can be seen heading toward the danger zone.

It seems probable that the fire was started by an ember (or more than one ember) from the fireworks that star in the Harmonious nighttime spectacular. Since fireworks are a big part of most nighttime shows in Disney Parks, it seems particularly likely — and it also seems likely that Disney staff are well-prepared for fireworks-related emergencies!
