Every so often, a television show graces our screens that is genuinely remarkable in more ways than one. These shows make their way into fans’ hearts and find a home there, bringing a lot of joy to people across the world. One such show has been making waves, and according to Neil Armstrong, is the next Bridgerton.

The Buccaneers Series 2023
A new period drama streaming on Apple TV+, The Buccaneers is loosely based on Edith Wharton’s last, unfinished novel. The series is set in the late 1870s and is the story of five wealthy young Americans.
Two sets of sisters, Nan and Jinny St George (Imogen Waterhouse) and Lizzy (Aubri Ibrag) and Mabel Elmsworth (Josie Totah), are invited to England by their friend Conchita Closson’s (Alisha Boe) new husband. Conchita is now pregnant and has married an English lord (Josh Dylan) after a passionate, whirlwind romance.
The St Georges and the Elmsworths arrive in London, where they are thrown into a series of parties and gatherings that are reminiscent of one other show that has taken the world by storm: Bridgerton.

Per the BBC, “The Buccaneers is not a subtle show, but it has been precision-tooled to hit all the beats that fans of romantic period dramas expect of the genre.”
The Apple TV period drama is described as “A costume drama revolving around society events in which a duke falls in love with a beautiful young woman from a wealthy family, soundtracked by modern tunes and filled with instantly meme-able scenes.” The cast is universally acknowledged to be loveable, and the villain as detestable as you’d want.
It even features an amazing soundtrack including a song from Taylor Swift: Nothing New (featuring Phoebe Bridgers).
The show recalls one of the most popular and successful television shows of its time and does it well. However, all this begs the question, is Bridgerton being replaced by The Buccaneers?

Is Bridgerton being replaced by The Buccaneers?
Well, as far as this writer is concerned, there’s no reason why both shows can co-exist in happy harmony.
As Bridgerton fans would know, the show is currently in wait for its third season, after an incredibly popular Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story that was released earlier this year. Ever since the season came out, fans have been waiting with bated breath for season three, which features Colin Bridgerton and his romance with Penelope Featherington.
While we wait for the next season of Bridgerton to come and sweep us off our feet, there’s no reason we can’t also enjoy the lovely ladies of The Buccaneers.
