There are always fun stories when it comes to casting iconic roles, and today, we have another fun tidbit for you!
Over the years, there have been myriad fascinating stories about the behind-the-scenes happenings of some of our favorite films. Today, we have an incredible story from the Star Wars franchise.
Per a recent report, it turns out there’s a universe in which Carrie Fisher might not have played Princess Leia had the original choice agreed to the role.

Jodie Foster Reveals She Was Offered the Role of Princess Leia and Turned It Down
“You’ve been in so many iconic roles, and we love what you do,” Jimmy Fallon commented during the show, going on to ask, “But I saw this on the internet — you were offered the role of Princess Leia in ‘Star Wars,’ is that true?”
Foster confirmed the rumor.
“I was, yeah,” she replied. “They were going for a younger Princess Leia but I had a conflict. I was doing a Disney movie and I just didn’t want to pull out of the Disney movie because I was already under contract.”
While Foster did not reveal which movie she had to give up the iconic role for, NBC News speculates it was for Freaky Friday, which was released a year before Star Wars.
As we know, the iconic role eventually went to Carrie Fisher, who was 19 years old when she landed it and filmed for it. Casting Foster would’ve meant that Star Wars looked really different since she was only 13 or 14 years old when George Lucas’ original movie was filming.
As NBC News explains, “Foster was 15 years old when the movie opened in theaters and became a cultural phenomenon.”
That’s certainly a casting choice we didn’t see coming, but we can’t help but wonder what Star Wars would have looked like if Jodie Foster had been Leia Organa instead!
