Church Performs Disney Princess ‘Crucifixion’ For Easter

Many people think of Easter bunnies, Easter eggs, and a tastefully-assembled pastel ensemble when they think of the April holiday — but if you’re part of the Church of the Rock congregation in Winnipeg, Manitoba, then you’re going to be in for a different kind of day that might just involve the crucifixion of a beloved Disney character!

The Church of the Rock is a church in Canada that has become famous for its parodies of the traditional Easter story. So far, Disney parodies from the Church of the Rock have included a Star Wars play, a Pirates of the Caribbean parody, an Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark performance, a comical ode to The Lion King (1994), and renditions of both Toy Story (1995) and The Avengers (2012).

Each parody also includes some appropriate musical soundtracks and pop music playlists. Now, the 1991 Disney movie Beauty and the Beast has just had its turn this past weekend — much to the chagrin of the classic Disney princess Belle!

In keeping with the usual Easter tale, Belle is resurrected at the end of the Church of the Rock musical — but not before starring in plenty of scenes (alongside characters like the Beast, Gaston, Lumiere, Mrs. Potts, and Cogsworth) that would scandalize the usual Beauty and the Beast audiences!

Clips from this year’s Beauty and the Beast performance can be seen below, in TikTok videos from TikTok user Daniel Lusk (@LuskMagic).

If you find this show and its “tale as old as time” to be appealing instead of scandalizing, then you can keep an eye on the church’s schedule for any more performances of the show — and, of course, you’ll have to head to Winnipeg in person!
