Halloween is an extra-special time at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Theme Parks, if not for anything but the opportunity for extra-special character sightings, experiences, and meet and greets–particularly involving the Disney Villains.

Noticeably lacking in their permanent presence in the Parks, Halloween–more specifically, the extra-ticket Halloween parties like Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Oogie Boogie Bash–are the time for Villains to come out to play. The evil entourage includes Maleficent, Lady Tremaine, the Sanderson Sisters, and Ernesto de la Cruz!

Yes, the mariachi antagonist from Pixar Animation Studios’ film Coco made an appearance for Disney’s Oogie Boogie Bash at the Disneyland Resort in California to sing his most beloved (stolen) single, “Remember Me.”

Theme Park insider, Scott Gustin, shared a video of Ernesto’s performance on Twitter.

Check it out:

Unlike the Coco show at EPCOT, which incorporated an elaborate puppet show, Ernesto de la Cruz appears in full human size with his white guitar.

For those who want to sing along with the video, here are the lyrics to “Remember Me”:

Remember meThough I have to say goodbyeRemember meDon’t let it make you cryFor even if I’m far awayI hold you in my heartI sing a secret song to youEach night we are apartRemember meThough I have to travel farRemember meEach time you hear a sad guitarKnow that I’m with youThe only way that I can beUntil you’re in my arms againRemember me
It is more than appropriate that Ernesto de la Cruz joins the villains somewhere at a Disney Park. Not only is he arguably one of the best Pixar movie villains, but his movie Coco is arguably a ghost story centered around Mexico’s Dia de Los Muertos–the Day of the Dead–which takes place at the same time as Halloween. In this light, de la Cruz joins the ranks of the Sanderson Sisters, the Headless Horseman, and Jack Skellington as Spooky Disney Halloween stars.
Disney’s Oogie Boogie Bash is a special Halloween event taking place at Disney California Adventure Park on select nights in September and October. Please visit the Disneyland Website for ticket availability and the most up-to-date information.
