Disney’s animated classics might feature princesses (and frogs) from different countries and periods, but they all share a common characteristic. Musical numbers written by prolific composers like EGOT Alan Menken and almost-EGOT Lin-Manuel Miranda make classics like The Little Mermaid (1989) and newer hits like Moana (2016) adaptable (and lovable) to multiple audiences.
Despite backlash in the media about recent productions from the Walt Disney Company at both the box office and on Disney+, Disney Entertainment has just earned 163 nominations across its networks for the 75th Primetime Emmy® Awards.
Disney Might Sweep the Emmy Awards
Spanning across Disney’s steaming platforms, including ABC, ABC News Studios, Disney Branded Television, Disney+, Disney Television Studios, FX, FX Productions, Hulu, National Geographic, Onyx Collective, Searchlight Pictures, Searchlight Television, and Walt Disney Studios, the entertainment giant casts a wide net across Emmy Award potential.
Notable nods include Lucasfilm’s “Andor,” “Light & Magic,” “The Mandalorian,” and “Obi-Wan Kenobi.” Another sweeping series is FX’s “The Bear,” with 13 Emmy nominations breaking an FX record for a freshman comedy series. But one spinoff from a recent Walt Disney Animation Studios film is making headlines for its potential to earn an EGOT distinction one day.
We Need to Talk About ‘Encanto’
Speaking of Lin-Manuel Miranda, one of his proudest projects is prime for distribution across multiple mediums. The 2021 film Encanto stepped into theaters and Casas worldwide, enchanting audiences with the heartwarming and empowering story of Mirabel and the Family Madrigal.
Inspiring a Disney+ show called “Encanto at the Hollywood Bowl,” a live-to-film concert at the iconic Los Angeles Amphitheater, Encanto solidified itself as a Disney classic. On social media, Disney Animation Promos shared the news about the concert recording’s nomination:

Featuring the original voice cast of Disney’s Academy Award®-winning Encanto, “Encanto at the Hollywood Bowl” welcomes viewers to Casa Madrigal and features Stephanie Beatriz, Adassa, Carolina Gaitán, Jessica Darrow, Diane Guerrero, Mauro Castillo, Angie Cepeda, Olga Merediz, along with special Guests including legendary Colombian superstar Carlos Vives.
Tony Potential
Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Grammy-winning number, “We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” continues to dazzle audiences, and whispers of Broadway potential have been heard among fans. With fellow Disney hits like Frozen, Aladdin, and The Lion King experiencing Broadway success, it’s not farfetched to imagine a Tony in Encanto’s future.
While we’ll have to wait and see if Emmys award The Family Madrigal with a new gift to display in Casa Madrigal, fans will continue hoping Bruno will predict a Tony in the Encanto cast’s future.
