In 2001, young actor Daniel Radcliffe took on the most iconic role of his career. He was only 12 years old at the time, but the young boy took on the role of Harry Potter in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. The film was based on the hit J.K Rowling book of the same name, which came out just four years earlier. The film was an immediate hit and launched Radcliffe — as well as his costars Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) and Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) — to superstardom. The last Harry Potter film came out 12 years ago, but they remain as popular as ever.
Harry Potter is so popular that HBO has announced that they will be creating a series based on the original book series. Each season will be based on one of the books and will dive deeper into the books than the films ever could. New actors will be taking on the roles that fans have come to know and love, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t asking if any original actors will appear in the series.
Comicbook.com recently spoke to Daniel Radcliffe and asked him if he would be appearing in the new series. Radcliffe said that he is unlikely to be offered a cameo in the show, as HBO wants to set the series apart from the wizarding world films.
“My understanding is that they’re trying to very much start fresh and I’m sure whoever is making them will want to make their own mark on it and probably not want to have to figure out how to get old Harry to cameo in this somewhere. So I’m definitely not seeking it out in any way. But I do wish them, obviously, all the luck in the world and I’m very excited to have that torch passed. But I don’t think it needs me to physically pass it.”
Fans are excited to see how the series fares in relation to the films. Just because it is Harry Potter does not mean that it will be successful. Warner Bros. originally planned for a five-film spin-off — Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. However, each film has been less successful than the previous one, and Warner Bros. has paused production on the fourth and fifth films.
At this time, the new HBO series has merely been announced. HBO has not released casting information or a potential release date. Things are even more uncertain with the current writers’ strike. However, they have said that the plan is to have the series run for 10 years. Disney Fanatic will keep readers updated as we learn more.
