When it comes to music and film, there is a wide variety of subjectivity, and Disney fans are often at odds in terms of their favorite songs or Disney films.

However, one fan favorite who has remained popular since his turn as the cheerful chimney sweep Bert in the 1964 movie Mary Poppins, Dick Van Dyke, has continued to be a beloved celebrity well into his nineties.

Now, Dick Van Dyke has just surprised his fans — and left other celebrities awestruck — with a surprising return to television! The Dick Van Dyke Show star headed onto the FOX TV channel to participate in a competitive singing show that is chock full of secrecy!

In the ninth season of The Masked Singer, the show’s usual routine was in full force. Celebrities (often somewhat-forgotten celebrities, although occasionally there have been A-listers or Disney darlings like Adrienne Bailon, Daughtry, Raven-Symoné, and Wayne Brady) dress up in elaborate costumes portraying animals or creatures and proceed through a singing competition without revealing their identities until they’re eliminated.

Dick Van Dyke’s chosen “mask” and costume was that of a gnome, and the Disney Legend (who is approaching 100 years of age) performed “When You’re Smiling” by the late Frank Sinatra.

The Night Museum and Bye Bye Birdie actor was eliminated quickly after performing the Frank Sinatra song, but the Dick Van Dyke Show star still made a huge impact on viewers during his time on the show (not to mention panelists Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Nicole Scherzinger, and Robin Thicke)!

Masked Singer judge and professional singer Nicole Scherzinger began crying after seeing who was hiding underneath the Gnome mask, and she was not the only one who was feeling starstruck. Ken Jeong, Robin Thicke, and Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg were also impressed!

Donny Osmond brought the house down with his turn as the “Peacock” early on in the days of the Masked Singer, but the Mulan actor and “Be A Man” singer might have just been overshadowed by Dick Van Dyke! As the show’s host, Nick Cannon, put it, “this is the most seasoned and most decorated entertainer we’ve had on our show”.

Did you get to see this big reveal during the episode on Wednesday? Would you like to see Dick Van Dyke back in action (or starring in more music videos alongside his wife)?
