The man recognized the world over for his role as Bert in Walt Disney’s timeless classic Mary Poppins reportedly suffered minor injuries in a collision near his home in Malibu, California, on the morning of March 15. Police reportedly arrived at the scene to find Van Dyke’s silver Lexus had collided with a gate. A spokesman for the Malibu police department confirmed the news and also said that the fire department had been alerted, but did not disclose any further details on the situation. This suggests that there is no further concerns regarding the actor’s recovery.

However, it is still unclear what caused the actor to crash in the first place. It should be noted that Dick Van Dyke, while still appearing vibrant as ever–even appearing on Fox’s cable show The Masked Singer, and starring in a music video with his wife Arlene Silver–is 97 years old.

Beyond his role opposite Julie Andrews, Dick Van Dyke is also known for his roles in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Night at the Museum, and CBS’ The Dick Van Dyke Show.

No comment from Dick Van Dyke’s agent has been released at the time of this article’s publication.

Van Dyke’s accident comes on the heels of another Disney Legend’s sudden demise and stands as an eerie reminder of the time’s fleeting nature. The icons of Disney movies and Disney Parks that have cemented their characters and art into our childhoods will not be here forever, and we should enjoy them and appreciate them while we still can.
