During an interview with Times of India, comedian Margaret Cho (who has recently entered the ‘Disney world’ via her role as a guidance counselor in the new Disney Channel Original Movie and Disney+ movie Prom Pact) made it clear that Disney can and should, in her opinion, begin to focus on “trans characters” in lead roles.

Cho’s character in Prom Pact (which is a controversial film among Disney fans) is an LGBTQ character, which led to the conversation around Disney’s inclusivity in the interview.

“I would love to see them everywhere,” Cho declared in the interview. “I would love to see trans characters and different types of people in roles of like Disney Princess, Disney Prince and Disney everything.”

Cho elaborated, pointing out that “this would be really important and it’s a move towards the future.”

“It’s a move towards who we are,” the comedian continued enthusiastically. “I think it’s really admirable and really exciting.”

Disney has come under fire recently for its inclusivity from both sides — those who think that Disney is being too inclusive or too “woke”, and those who think that Disney still has a long way to go in terms of representing any and all of its audience members to a satisfactory degree.

Recently, Disney was also specifically called out by an influential Australian woman for the lack of disabled Disney princesses in Disney’s movie library.

A petition has begun to gain steam after that Australian activist’s letter was sent to Disney, so perhaps we will soon see a petition for trans Diseny princesses or Disney princes as well as a letter to Disney from Margaret Cho!

Do you think that Disney should start making “trans characters” and all “different types of people” a priority when writing, casting, and making future Disney movies, whether they are live-action or animated Disney films?
