‘Tangled’ Live-Action Movie Reportedly in the Works

Disney has reportedly chosen to greenlight yet another live-action remake, and this time, 2010’s Tangled will be the movie to grace the big screen once again.

After all the controversy surrounding the two live-action remakes released earlier this year, the Walt Disney Company seems to be gearing up for more criticism with this latest announcement. Per the latest news, the beloved animated feature film based on the fairy tale RapunzelTangled—will be made into a live-action remake; this time, fans are making their displeasure clear from the get-go.

Disney’s Live-Action Remakes

The Walt Disney Company has been at the center of much controversy for its live-action remakes for a while now. Be it because they cast Black singer and actress Halle Bailey in The Little Mermaid and the gorgeous Yara Shahidi as Tinker Bell in Peter Pan and Wendy, or simply because fans are bored with the seemingly lazy choice on the part of studio executives to keep remaking old Disney animated hits instead of working on new creative features, the House of Mouse has left many in the Disney community frustrated.

Rather than listening to fans, however, it seems Disney is choosing to continue with this strategy of remaking old favorites.

Tangled Live-Action Announced

On August 4, Pop Base announced that a Tangled live-action movie is reportedly in the works at Disney. While one might assume this is celebratory news, fans were distinctly unhappy at the development.

One exclaimed, “Disney wanna ruin EVERYTHING. The animated version slaps – leave it in peace pls.”

Another fan recalled the amount of money Disney lost this year at the cinema, commenting that the company would continue to lose money with the remakes.

As the fan recalled, Disney has reportedly lost almost a billion dollars a the box office, and while the studio is still on top thanks to releases like Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Avatar: The Way of Water that came out months prior, they have still not delivered a new original mega-hit this year.

This said, many fans were also excited about the possibility of Disney turning this classic animated film into a live-action version of the movie. Some wondered if they would cast Taylor Swift as Rapunzel, and others wondered about how long they might make her hair in the live-action.

It is important to remember that at the moment, this is still unconfirmed by Disney and is a rumor; perhaps it’s the Mouse House testing waters to see how receptive a crowd would be to another remake.

(The answer is seemingly, “not very.”)
