The Walt Disney Company has confirmed that layoffs are on the way for Disneyland Resort, with approximately 100 positions set to be eliminated as part of a company-wide reorganization. The change comes as the resort continues to operate during what Disney describes as a “period of steady, sustained operation.”

Disneyland Resort announced the decision on Tuesday, explaining that the move was designed to streamline operations and prepare for future growth. While the total number of cast members affected remains small compared to the overall workforce, the company says the decision was not made lightly. A statement from a Disney spokesperson reads:
“With our business in a period of steady, sustained operation, we are recalibrating our organization to ensure we continue to deliver exceptional experiences for our guests, while positioning Disneyland Resort for the future. As part of this, we’ve made the difficult decision to eliminate a limited number of salaried positions. We are deeply grateful for the contributions of these cast members and are committed to supporting them with care, respect, and resources during this transition.”

Theme park journalist Scott Gustin (@ScottGustin) shared the news on X (formerly known as Twitter), confirming that the layoffs would affect around 100 employees across various teams.

Under California’s Cal-WARN Act, large employers must give at least 60 days’ written notice before conducting mass layoffs affecting 50 or more employees within a 30-day period. Notices must be submitted to the state’s Employment Development Department and made available to the public.
As a result, most Disneyland Resort cast members affected by this decision are expected to continue working until early December, unless they are notified otherwise. Disney has not provided a specific timeline for when all impacted employees will leave their positions or which departments are most affected.

The Disneyland Resort layoffs follow several recent workforce reductions across The Walt Disney Company. Approximately 200 employees were let go from ABC and Disney Entertainment in June, while 115 positions were eliminated at shopDisney (now known as the Disney Store) in January 2024. In March 2023, Disney terminated around 3,000 roles (including theme park cast members) as part of a larger company restructuring.
Disney Fanatic sends its thoughts to those Disneyland Resort cast members affected by the layoffs.

They’re lying. They’re doing this because of the lawsuits. Many parts of the park are constantly understaffed so this has nothing to do with efficiency. They’re just trying to hoard more money because of the recent lawsuits. Corporate greed at its most magical.
