Disney might have just named multiple new Disney Legends at last year’s D23 Expo, including every lead actor from the record-breaking Frozen films, but one Frozen Disney Legend might not be feeling quite as pleased with Disney these days!
Kristen Bell, the actress who plays Queen Anna (opposite Idina Menzel in the role of the icy princess Elsa) and sings her character’s songs, actually created another Disney project that has just gotten the axe.
Why Has Disney Mercilessly Canceled This Cult-Favorite?
Disney+ recently announced plans to cancel or eradicate multiple older or smaller series.
Cult-favorite shows like Willow (which has a small but dedicated following) are leaving the streaming service, and apparently, Kristen Bell’s non-Frozen show is joining those unfortunate ranks!
The History Behind Queen Anna’s Passion Project
Frozen star Kristen Bell served as the executive producer on a heartwarming reality show called Encore!, which brought normal adults back to their high schools in order to recreate the high school musicals (High School Musical pun intended) that they had loved being part of in their youth.
The show received plenty of positive reviews after its 2019 debut on Disney+, and Kristen Bell hosted the show in between her executive producer duties. Bell also hosted a similar TV special that actually aired back in 2017 on ABC, which directly inspired the Encore! series.
This show had 12 episodes as of 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic unofficially put an end to things. Now, unfortunately, we officially know that Encore! has had its last opening night.
Will Kristen Bell Forgive Disney?
Walt Disney Company’s CFO Christine McCarthy revealed in an earnings call on May 10 that Disney+ would be removing many shows from its library, but now we know which shows to frantically binge before May 26 (when they leave the streaming service)!
Will Encore! be on your binge list this week, and do you think that Disney Legend Kristen Bell will hold a grudge against the company that has made her a household name?
