Making memories with little ones at Disney Parks is an experience nearly every parent dreams of. Meeting favorite Disney characters like Mickey Mouse, taking a bite of a Dole Whip, and grinning while riding famous attractions like Soarin’ are just the beginning when it comes to making magical Disney moments happen.
While kiddos will never stop finding the magic in Disney’s Parks, it’s no secret they’ve undergone significant changes in recent years since COVID-19 struck. With Genie+, Genie+ Lightning Lanes, Individual Lightning Lanes, and Virtual Queues, Disney vacations have become more complex to plan. With ample walking ahead of every Disney Guest throughout a sprawling Disney vacation, a stroller is one tool for families with little ones that makes life easier.
A napping vessel and space to hold belongings, strollers are a necessity at Disney. Still, certain stroller types pose a challenge for other Guests navigating the Parks, and Disney is cracking down as of June 30.
Global Parks Shutting Strollers Down
Wagon-style strollers are ideal for hauling little ones around Park, but they’ve been ousted from Walt Disney World and Disneyland since 2019. Due to sheer size, they’ve been banned from Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris. Starting this summer, Disney Parks in China are following suit, and Hong Kong Disneyland is taking a page out of the Paris Park’s book.
Hong Kong Disneyland
Stroller wagons will not be allowed at Hong Kong Disneyland beginning July 31, 2023, regardless of size. Hong Kong Disneyland even asserts that Guests attempting to enter the Park with a stroller defying the new regulations can be denied access without a refund or compensation. Any strollers that do not exceed 92 centimeters (about 36 inches) by 132 centimeters (about 52 inches) will still be allowed at Hong Kong Disneyland, but these items are restricted:
- Carts or other wheeled carriers (except those permitted)
- Flags, banners, or signs of any size
- Wheeled luggage of any size
- The use of handheld camera or cell phone extension poles (such as selfie sticks)
- Playing with kites, drones, or remote-controlled flying devices
- The sale or exchange of goods or services
Shanghai Disneyland
Additionally, Shanghai Disneyland Park launched a wagon-style stroller ban on June 30, 2023. According to the official website, these carriers are no longer permitted:
- Strollers with a length exceeding 110 cm, and width exceeding 80 cm (both including any accessories or extension attachments fully deployed)
- Wagons, stroller wagons
- Carts
- Children’s tricycles
- Wheeled carriers
- Stroller suitcases
- Any trailer-like object that is pushed, pulled, or towed by an electric conveyance vehicle, wheelchair, stroller, or person
Guests can still bring strollers that abide by the recent restrictions into the Disney Parks, and both locations will continue offering stroller rentals for families. In the meantime, Guests planning an international Disney trip might need to adjust their Park navigation plans.
