Lionel Messi is a household name in soccer. The man is so famous that even non-soccer fans recognize his name and know about his achievements. The Argentine professional footballer plays as a forward for Major League Soccer club Inter Miami and the Argentina national team. He is also the captain of both teams.

He’s widely accepted to be one of the greatest players of all time—a GOAT—along with the likes of David Beckham, and has won a record eight Ballon d’Or awards, a record six European Golden Shoes, and in 2020 was named to the Ballon d’Or Dream Team. This is among hundreds of other records he’s set and holds.

Recently, X (formerly known as Twitter) user Ti Gon Plus shared a movie poster of a supposed upcoming film named 8vo, along with a caption that said, “Disney just announced they’re producing an animated movie on Lionel Messi. Here’s their latest poster. Looks like the GOAT is on his way to snagging his 8th Ballon d’Or.”

Many fans were immediately excited about this development and took to the comments to share their happiness at the possibility.

One shared, “Wow! Good money for him and Disney too.”

Another agreed, expressing their appreciation for Disney and Pixar films, “Ha ha, it would be great I am sure. I love most of the Disney pixar animated movies.”

However, one fan took the time to question the legitimacy of the film. They asked, “Is this for real?” The OP responded, implying that the news was from the satirical website The Babylon Bee. (Although a quick search demonstrated that the handle and website had made no such claim as of the publishing of this article.)

Is Disney/Pixar Movie ‘8 vo’ About Lionel Messi Really in Production?

The reality is while this film would certainly find a willing and wide audience, it has not been confirmed by Disney, nor has it been announced officially. The poster appears to be one made with AI by a hopeful fan and then circulated to spread the “news.”

This said, it’s unsurprising that many believed the poster to be true since Inter Miami star Lionel Messi (who just won his eighth Ballon d’Or)does have an animated series in the works, Messi and the Giants. The Argentinean soccer captain teamed up with Sony Music Entertainment after winning the World Cup in the Middle East, in Qatar, to develop the new series.
