The fifth Indiana Jones film promises to be one last epic adventure that spans miles and years, suggesting even more significant run time spent back in the 1940s with de-aged Ford and Mikkelsen fighting over the dial in the heart of Germany.
The mystical dial is said to have the power to help fix mistakes of the past. Mikkelsen’s Jurgen Voller seeks to use the dial to correct the mistakes Hitler made and restore a supposedly better Third Reich. It is still unclear, though, why Indy and his Goddaugher Helena Shaw are looking for it beyond the simple motivation to keep it out of Nazi hands and finally achieve something that he and Helena’s father have searched for their whole lives.
Disney Confirms Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny Ends Movie Franchise
In the lead-up to this trailer’s release, the studios admitted that this will be the last installment of George Lucas’ Indiana Jones franchise. Ford has already defended that the role dies with him, but Disney stated in a press release that Indy 5 will be “the highly anticipated final installment of the beloved franchise.” Director James Mangold, who succeeds Steven Spielberg in the crucial position, called it the “final Indiana Jones adventure.”
It was expected that the famous archaeologist’s adventures would continue in a Disney+ original series, but those plans have reportedly been canceled.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny arrives in theaters on June 30.
