Disney Expected to Delay ‘Snow White’ Remake Release

For almost seven years, Disney has been working on a live-action remake of the hit animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The film is following in the path of other live-action remakes like Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Dumbo, and many others. The film will star West Side Story actress Rachel Zegler as the titular Princess and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen who wants Snow White dead.

Disney live-action remakes have become a real point of contention amongst Disney fans. Many think that Disney is doing too many live-action remakes, and they should make more original content. The live-action Snow White has been even more controversial since Disney announced that Zegler would play the role. Zegler is half-Polish and half-Colombian. A lot of people complained that she did not have a pale enough complexion to play the fair-skinned princess, whose skin is “fair as snow.”

Snow White is slated to be released on March 22, 2o24 but, according to a new report from Puck, the film’s release will most likely be delayed. Members of both the Writers Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild have been on strike for weeks. That means that reshoots for the film may not be possible with no writers to change the dialogue. Plus, none of the actors would be able to return for reshoots, since they are also on the picket lines.

Both strikes are going strong and showing no signs of slowing down. The marketing of a film and the press tours from its stars are essential in helping promote the film. Because of the strike, Zegler Gadot, and the other main stars will not be able to promote the film in any way. They can’t tweet about the film, post on Instagram about Snow White, or do any interviews about the film.

Disney learned the hard way how the dual strikes can affect a film’s success. On July 28, Haunted Mansion was released in theaters, and it absolutely tanked. Disney was hoping to turn out a successful movie based on the ride after its 2008 flop starring Eddie Murphy. Unfortunately, in terms of box office numbers, the new film is faring no better than its predecessor, although fans do seem to like it more.

Fans are not the only ones taking issue with the new Snow White movie. Recently, David Hand Jr., son of one of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs original directors — also named David Hand — ripped Disney for the remake. He said the movie was “a whole different concept and I just totally disagree with it.” He also said that Walt and his father would not like it and are “turning in their graves.”

Mr. Hand blamed Disney’s “radical” ideas and “new woke things” on the changes made to the classic princess tale.
