Disney World Closing Early Today for Tropical Storm Nicole

Disney Parks has officially given fans an update on Twitter about their response to Tropical Storm Nicole, which is set to hit Florida tonight.

Tropical Storm Nicole is expected to make landfall in Brevard County–right at the Brevard/Indian River line–before making her way northwest. The worst conditions are also expected to hit Central Florida on Thursday, November 10. Nicole, though currently a Tropical Storm, is just shy of a hurricane and is predicted to become one, per the National Hurricane Center.

While Florida has declared a state of emergency, the Walt Disney World Resort had flip-flopped a little on whether the Disney Park was going to close for the storm. As of late this morning, the Disney Parks Twitter account has shared the update that the Walt Disney World Resort Theme Parks—Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom—will have a phased closure today, November 9, beginning at 5 p.m. and will remain closed through tomorrow morning, November 10. The update even went so far as to say the Parks will likely not reopen at their regularly scheduled time tomorrow as well.

Each Theme Park will be closing early beginning at 5 p.m. starting with Disneys Animal Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios at 6 p.m., EPCOT and Magic Kingdom Park at 7 p.m.

This update comes after Disney rescinded their cancellation announcements yesterday, after first suggesting they would be closing the Parks in preparation for the incoming storm. Disney had initially announced that Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, Copper Creek Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, Treehouse Villas at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa and the Bungalows at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will be closed Wednesday, November 9 through Friday, November 11. This also comes after the reports from Orlando International Airport that it would cease all commercial operations due to Tropical Storm Nicole starting today, November 9, at 4 p.m.

Tropical Storm Nicole comes after the devastation that Hurricane Ian rained on Florida earlier this autumn. While the Disney Parks only announced their official closure today, Disney Cruise Line had already made an official statement regarding two of their routes earlier this week. Two Disney Cruise Line itineraries changed their regularly scheduled stop at Disney’s Private Island destination, Castaway Cay. DCL also changed its stop in Nassau to Cozumel, Mexico.

We at Disney Fanatic will continue to report on all Disney news as it comes to light.
