There’s a stretch of the calendar coming up that’s going to catch a lot of guests off guard—and it’s not because of construction or weather.
At first glance, everything looks normal at Magic Kingdom. Park hours are posted, tickets are moving quickly, and summer crowds are already starting to build. But once August arrives, something shifts. The daily schedule begins to look very different, especially if you’re used to long evenings in the park.
For a significant portion of late summer and fall, Magic Kingdom won’t be operating on a typical schedule. Instead of staying open deep into the night, the park will close at 6:00 p.m. on select dates—and there are a lot more of those dates than you might expect.

In total, Disney has confirmed 38 nights where Magic Kingdom will shut down early.
Why Magic Kingdom Is Closing Early
These early closures are tied to the return of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, one of the most popular seasonal events at Walt Disney World.
Running from August 7 through October 31, the event transforms Magic Kingdom into a Halloween-themed experience complete with exclusive entertainment, rare character meet-and-greets, trick-or-treating, and special overlays you won’t find during the regular day.
But in order to make that happen, Disney needs the park cleared out.
On party nights, guests with standard day tickets will be asked to leave at 6:00 p.m., while those attending the event can remain inside. It’s a full transition, and if you’re not aware of it ahead of time, it can feel like your day is ending right when things are getting good.
A Schedule That Changes How You Plan
Thirty-eight early closures is not a small number. That’s a major portion of the calendar across August, September, and October.
If you’re visiting during that window, there’s a strong chance your Magic Kingdom day could fall on one of these dates.
And that changes everything.
Instead of planning for fireworks, nighttime rides, and a full evening in the park, you’ll need to adjust your expectations. That could mean arriving early and prioritizing key attractions before the cutoff—or choosing a completely different park for that day.
Many experienced guests actually use these party dates to their advantage. Since some visitors avoid the early closures altogether, crowds during the daytime hours can be lighter. That creates an opportunity to knock out major rides with shorter waits, especially if you take advantage of Lightning Lane and rope drop strategies.
The Cost of Staying Late
If you want to remain in Magic Kingdom after 6:00 p.m. on one of these nights, you’ll need a separate ticket for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.
Pricing for 2026 ranges from $119 on the lowest-tier August dates up to $229 for Halloween night itself.
August remains the most affordable time to attend, with select dates like August 11 and 14 offering the lowest prices of the season. As the calendar moves into September, prices steadily rise, eventually peaking in October, when demand is at its highest.
That final week leading up to Halloween is not only the most expensive—it’s also the most competitive. Those dates tend to sell out quickly, sometimes within days of general sales opening.

Discounts and Demand
Annual Passholders and Disney Vacation Club members can save $10 per ticket, but only on select dates through early October. After that, the discount disappears, just as demand begins to spike.
And if recent years are any indication, waiting too long to buy isn’t a great strategy. Every party night sold out last season, and Halloween itself didn’t last long once tickets became widely available.
What This Means for Guests
The biggest takeaway here is simple: you can’t treat every Magic Kingdom day the same during this time of year.
Those 6:00 p.m. closures aren’t just a minor inconvenience—they remove several of the most popular hours from the day. Fireworks, cooler temperatures, and shorter evening wait times are all off the table unless you’re attending the party.
For first-time visitors especially, this can be a surprise. Many guests assume Magic Kingdom will stay open late, only to realize too late that their day is ending early.
But for those who plan ahead, there’s still a lot of value to be found.
You can take advantage of lighter daytime crowds, stack your Lightning Lane selections, and shift your nighttime plans to another park. Or, if the event appeals to you, you can lean into the experience and enjoy one of the most unique offerings Disney puts on each year.
A Different Kind of Magic Kingdom Day
Magic Kingdom isn’t really “closing early” in the traditional sense—it’s transforming into something else entirely.
That shift just happens to come with a firm cutoff for regular guests.
With 38 nights on the calendar, this isn’t a one-off situation. It’s a major seasonal change that will shape how thousands of guests experience the park over the next few months.
If you’re heading to Walt Disney World between August and October, this is one detail you’ll want to lock in before you finalize your plans.
Because once 6:00 p.m. hits, your Magic Kingdom day might be over—unless you’ve planned for what comes next.
