New Disney World Park

A fifth Theme Park could be underway at the Walt Disney World Resort, and it appears the powers that be took measures to ensure that the fast track for Imagineers will still exist despite the new government.

In the last hours of the Reedy Creek Improvement District, the now-disbanded board of directors snuck in some development security covenants that gave Disney the freedom to continue to freely develop the area already designated for the Mega-Resort’s expansion, including the creation of a fifth Theme Park and even a third water Park.

The plans are approved through 2032.

Disney claimed that “All agreements signed between Disney and the district were appropriate and were discussed and approved in open, noticed public forums in compliance with Florida’s Government in the Sunshine law.” But Florida’s State Government seems to view this move as undermining actions, saying, “This board loses, for practical purposes, the majority of its ability to do anything beyond maintain the roads and maintain basic infrastructure.”

This dispute is expected to go to court as the new board of directors for the reorganized Central Florida Tourism Oversight District appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis seeks to ensure actions taken within the landmass outside Orlando, Florida, is done in the best interests of the entire State.

Now, it should be noted that Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products have not officially announced that any new Theme Park will be added to Disney World. The latest hopes revolve around the expansion and retheming of Magic Kingdom Park and Disney’s Animal Kingdom to include a Moana-themed area and a Disney Villains-themed land. But the power change does bring into question how much the new government interference would affect any hope of further progress from Walt Disney Imagineering.
