It hasn’t been an easy week for the United States when it comes to weather lately. The northern-central and north-eastern states have been affected by the Canadian wildfires, which brought a horde of smoke and air quality warnings to cities like Chicago, and bright orange skies to states like New York earlier this month. The southern states haven’t been having it easy either; they have been hit with a tremendous heat wave, enough for the city of Dallas, Texas, to earn the not-so-enviable honor of being the hottest city in the country this week. The heat wave has been significant and widespread, affecting even the Sunshine State.
In no new news, Florida is a state that becomes incredibly hot in the summer; any Florida native and tourist who has visited the Sunshine State in these months is well aware of this reality. However, that heat can become particularly excruciating to deal with when at the Walt Disney World Resort. While there are many tips and tricks Guests have used to keep cool and deal with the heat, with the recent heat wave, even the Florida Division of Emergency Management took notice and shared a warning with visitors to the state, including those to the Walt Disney World theme parks.
Per The Washington Post, “59 million people in the United States were at risk of being exposed to dangerous heat on Wednesday, mostly in Texas and other Southern states, including Florida.”
The heat wave that Florida is currently experiencing is being caused by something known as a “heat dome.” A heat dome is “a large high-pressure zone that traps heat underneath it” and has made its presence known among the southern states.
The National Weather Service issued a warning,
“Many areas outside of Texas will experience their most significant heat of the season…Increased heat-related danger persists this week due to the longevity of this ongoing heat wave with record high nighttime lows and elevated heat index readings during the day. It is essential to have ways to cool down and limit your heat exposure.”
☀️ As Florida experiences heat waves & high temperatures, residents & visitors are encouraged to stay hydrated & cool to avoid heat-related illnesses.

The Florida Division of Emergency Management also warned those within the Sunshine State, encouraging them to stay hydrated and cool to avoid “heat-related illnesses.” The warning also shared the differences between heat exhaustion and heat stroke, allowing Floridians and Walt Disney World Guests to stay informed and keep well during their Walt Disney World vacation.
Dealing with heat while at the Walt Disney World Resort is not new, but being a little more cautious and careful this week is a necessary precaution to ensure you stay well to enjoy the ultimate Disney experience at “The Most Magical Place on Earth.”
