Disney World Officially Destroys One of Its Last ‘Star Wars’ Holdovers

Disney World is officially tearing down one of its last recognizable Star Wars remnants at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and it’s a change that feels surprisingly final.

For years, the former Star Wars Launch Bay location sat in Animation Courtyard like a leftover piece of the park’s past. Even after Disney built the massive Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, this older Star Wars space still existed, almost like a backup corner of the franchise that refused to disappear.

But now, it’s disappearing for real.

Guests visiting Hollywood Studios have started noticing visible demolition work taking place outside the former Launch Bay building. And unlike some Disney construction projects that move slowly behind walls, this one is leaving behind a pretty obvious trail: missing panels, stripped facade sections, and a building that looks less and less like it belongs to the Star Wars universe.

According to reports, crews have begun removing part of the exterior facade that covered the steel structure extending out from the building. This was reportedly the section that featured a blue line detail down the center, making it one of the most recognizable parts of the building’s exterior.

It’s the kind of removal that signals something bigger than routine maintenance. Disney is dismantling the theme itself.

Even more telling, this is not the first time the building has been altered. The old sign that once identified the location was removed months ago, and the Old Jedi Order banner that used to hang above it is also gone. That’s a major clue that Disney isn’t simply updating the area—it’s eliminating its Star Wars identity completely.

At this point, it’s hard to argue that Launch Bay is just “temporarily closed” or waiting for some future return. Disney appears to be permanently clearing the space for a new purpose.

The area is expected to become part of the upcoming “Magic of Disney Animation” project, currently scheduled to open sometime in summer 2026. That means Disney is moving forward with a major rebranding of Animation Courtyard, and Launch Bay is one of the biggest pieces being erased in the process.

What makes this especially wild is that Launch Bay was one of the last places in Hollywood Studios that still felt like the old park. Before Galaxy’s Edge, before Toy Story Land, before the park fully shifted into franchise-based expansions, this building was part of that transitional era.

Now, it’s being stripped down to its bones.

There’s also speculation that the construction could eventually support something connected to Mickey’s Sorcerer Hat, based on concept art. If that ends up happening, it would be a huge nostalgic callback for fans who miss the Hollywood Studios of the 2000s.

But regardless of what comes next, one thing is obvious: Disney World is officially destroying one of its last remaining Star Wars holdovers outside of Galaxy’s Edge.

And this time, it doesn’t look like it’s coming back.
