Another week, another round of closures at Walt Disney World Resort, as yet another theme park experience prepares to shut its doors this weekend.
It seems like hardly a day goes by without Disney announcing a closure at its iconic Central Florida resort. This week, Disney confirmed that Magic Kingdom’s Hall of Presidents will close in January 2025.
This closure appears to be tied to updates following the upcoming inauguration of President-Elect Donald Trump, marking yet another addition to the list of early 2025 shutdowns. Other attractions set to close around the same time include Kali River Rapids at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Astro Orbiter at Magic Kingdom.
Understandably, these closures have many Guests questioning whether a visit to Disney World next year is worth the rising cost of admission. Unfortunately, refurbishments and closures are a necessary part of theme park operations—and sometimes, Disney’s hand is forced by circumstances beyond its control.
Adding to the latest lineup of closures, Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park will temporarily shut down again this weekend. The official Disney website currently shows no operating hours for Saturday, December 21, and Sunday, December 22. While Disney hasn’t made a formal announcement, the closure seems to coincide with an incoming cold front sweeping through Central Florida.
According to Click Orlando, “Expect rain chances to drop to around 20-30% on Thursday, and then mostly dry conditions for most areas through the weekend. When it comes to the temperatures, they will cool slightly on Thursday and Friday, with highs in the low to mid-70s and then dipping into the 60s on Saturday.”
The report continues, “Overnight lows by the weekend will dip into the low 40s. For early Saturday and Sunday mornings, wind chills could drop into the upper 30s to low 40s inland, especially west of I-95.”
Disney routinely closes its water parks during cold weather or when inclement conditions arise. At the moment, Blizzard Beach is the only water park in operation, as Typhoon Lagoon remains indefinitely shuttered. Blizzard Beach is slated to reopen on Monday, December 23, with hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This upcoming closure follows a December filled with shutdowns due to chilly weather across the Sunshine State. Earlier this month, Blizzard Beach faced an extended six-day closure, mirroring similar disruptions at Universal Orlando Resort’s Volcano Bay.
