With multiple budget airlines canceling routes to one Orlando airport, certain fans who are looking to save on flights will have to shell out more to enjoy that quintessential Disney vacation.

Going to Disney World is not an insignificant cost. Any Disney fan who has made the trip out to the Central Florida Disney Resort knows how expensive this can be, and this becomes doubly true when you’re not a Florida or Orlando resident.

For this reason, cheap flights have been a godsend for many guests who fly into Orlando International Airport to enjoy their Disney dreams. However, now, with some budget airlines canceling some of their Orlando routes, guests will have to pay more to make their way to Disney.

Spirit Airlines Cancels MCO Route

As reported by the Orlando Business Journal, after the failure of the JetBlue merger deal, Spirit has officially begun cutting down on the number of routes it offers. Among these suspended routes is the Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) to MCO.

This has happened following the suspension of several other domestic routes by Spirit in an effort to conserve and redistribute resources. This is likely because there wasn’t enough demand for this route.

Last April, the route ran 53 times, but had dwindled to 14 times by November.

Lynx Air Files for Bankruptcy, Canceling All MCO Flights Effective Immediately

Last month, Canada’s Lynx Air filed for bankruptcy and ceased all its operations beginning February 26, as reported by Reuters. The challenges the company faced of “rising operating costs, high fuel prices and increasing airport charges” had become “too significant to overcome.”

Lynx was a relatively new airline and had only been in business since April 2022.

It’s certainly an unfortunate turn of events for any Canadians who want to come to the United States, and particularly any Canadian Disney World fans who might choose to enjoy their time at the Central Florida Disney Park.
