With so many exciting transformations happening at Walt Disney World Resort, guests from around the world are taking a second look at their travel plans. From overhauls in Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom to long-term visions at Hollywood Studios, there’s no doubt that the Central Florida destination is deep in development mode. But with all that change, is it the right time to visit—or should guests wait a few years?
A recent discussion on Reddit encapsulated this growing dilemma. A European family planning a rare trip to Orlando between January and May 2026 asked fellow Disney fans if they should consider postponing to 2027 due to reported construction. What followed was a flurry of insights from Disney-goers who’ve seen the parks in every stage of evolution.
User SinHarvestz was quick to reassure: “If you’re waiting for there to be no construction, then you’ll be waiting forever. You’ll still have a great time in 2026, I’d say stick to the plan!” Similarly, harmacist87 shared a breakdown of the major attractions in development and emphasized that waiting for all of them to be complete could take years—possibly well into 2029 or 2030.
Another user, jehosophat44, suggested postponing could be a wise choice—but with a caveat. “It’s never a bad time to visit WDW… but delaying until 2027 is a safer bet to see a few of the brand-new offerings and fewer construction walls.”
As the conversation continues online, there’s no shortage of major updates to discuss. Magic Kingdom is set to say goodbye to Tom Sawyer Island and Rivers of America on July 7, clearing space for Piston Peak National Park, a new Cars-themed land inspired by Pixar’s Cars and Planes franchises. The project is part of what Disney has called the “largest expansion in Magic Kingdom history.”
And that’s just the beginning. Looking “Beyond Big Thunder,” Disney has teased a villain-themed land, though no timeline has been shared. At Animal Kingdom, the transformation of DinoLand U.S.A. into the Tropical Americas is already in progress, with Plaza Esperanda slated to open in 2027—though Disney has not confirmed a firm date.
Hollywood Studios is undergoing its own shift. The Grand Avenue area has been decommissioned following the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D, with plans in motion to introduce Monstropolis, bringing the world of Monsters, Inc. to life in a new way. Fans are also anticipating the reimagining of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, which will feature the Muppets in a brand-new storyline.
Also on the horizon: Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is expected to reopen in 2026 after a significant refurbishment, adding to the mix of updated experiences coming soon.
While Disney hasn’t released a comprehensive schedule for these expansions, the creative gears are clearly in motion. From fresh theming to entire new lands, the next few years promise major evolution for Walt Disney World.
So what’s the best move for guests planning a visit? Most fans seem to agree—there’s no perfect time to go, but there’s also no bad time. Construction is part of Disney’s ongoing effort to enhance the guest experience. As one commenter said, you’ll remember the magic—not the walls.
