After Disney World, Fellow Disney Park Cast Members Get Long-Overdue Raise

Disney Begins Latest Round of Layoffs

The Walt Disney World Resort and the Disneyland Resort are home to some incredible Theme Parks—Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom in the former and Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park in the latter. The Disney Resorts and each Disney Park on the property have Guests flocking to them for the magical experience they provide. The Parks have myriad rides and attractions that make them a “must-visit.” The heart of the Disney experience, however, are the Disney Cast Members.

However, despite being so central to the Disney experience, Walt Disney World Cast Members have been fighting for fair wages for years now. From protests to union discussions and wage negotiations that were largely unsuccessful for many months, just recently, it was revealed that the Cast Member union for Walt Disney World won their fight and had been granted a notable pay raise.

Now it’s the turn of Disneyland Resort Cast Members.

As reported by the OC Register, Disney security workers at the Disneyland Resort will be getting an $8-per-hour raise in a new contract. The Theme Park’s “security” Cast Members—these include security officers, lead officers, sergeants, bag checkers, and canine handlers—will all be receiving an $8/hr raise, phased out over the next two years.

Security, Police, and Fire Professionals of America represent Disneyland security Cast Members, and they shared that the CMs got a $6 hourly raise that was effective April 1. This will be followed by a “$1-an-hour hike on April 1, 2024,” and another “$1 hourly raise on April 1, 2025.” All of these together will boost their minimum wage to $26 an hour from $18.10.

David Hickey, SPFPA’s international president, shared, “We are more than pleased with the wage increase we were able to negotiate.” Hickey continued, “The attitude about coming to work has changed, and it has forced companies to pay more. We have negotiations coming up at Disney World in Florida. They’re looking to have a major wage increase there, too.”

Disney, for its part, released a statement as well, saying they were “glad to have reached an agreement with the union.”
