A Message to Disney Park Guests This December: “Stay Away”

The holiday season is in full swing, and the Southern California Disney parks are bustling with activity. Crowds are flocking to Disneyland Resort to experience the magic of the season, but some Disney Parks fans are warning others to think twice before visiting this December.

Unlike Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Resort doesn’t offer a special ticketed Christmas party. However, Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure Park, and Downtown Disney District transform into a winter wonderland with festive decorations, holiday-themed entertainment, and seasonal treats.

Highlights include the Festival of Holidays, A Christmas Fantasy Parade, “Believe… In Holiday Magic” fireworks, and World of Color – Season of Light. Exclusive holiday overlays, such as Haunted Mansion Holiday and “it’s a small world” Holiday, further enhance the seasonal experience.

While Disneyland Resort’s festive offerings are undeniably magical, the holiday season also brings massive crowds. Despite some Magic Key Pass Holders being blocked out, Disneyland Park still sees record-breaking numbers of visitors, making it a challenge to enjoy the magic.

TikTok user @nikki.pnw shared a video of a packed Main Street, U.S.A., at Disneyland Park, warning others about the holiday chaos.

“Your reminder to avoid Disneyland during December if you hate crowds,” the TikToker wrote. “So pretty but the most packed I’ve ever seen it!”

The overwhelmed guest added that she may not renew her Magic Key Pass due to Disneyland Resort‘s crowd management:

“I don’t think I’m going to renew my pass when it’s time because the amount of people is insane,” she explained. “I wish they did a better job of trying to keep crowds low.”

The comments section of @nikki.pnw’s video became a hub for Disneyland fans to share similar experiences.

“They let way too many people in at once!” commented @linzarooski.

“I went today and it was PACKED!” added @kristen_k._. “Most the rides were over an hour wait.”

Others advised visiting Disney California Adventure Park, which tends to be less crowded than Disneyland Park during the holidays.

“I went to DCA on Monday and it was so empty,” said @gwen.pco. “Most waits were under 30 mins (except Cars) because everyone is at Disneyland.”

Other Disneyland Resort visitors recommended skipping December and visiting during the first week of January for a more relaxed experience.

“My tip is if you want the holiday season experience with reduced crowds, 1st week of January is the time to go,” @addie_1013 wrote.

Guests planning to visit this December should arrive early, utilize Disney Genie+ for ride reservations, and consider splitting time between Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park to make the most of their trip.
