Disney’s CEO Bob Iger Is Now a Doctor—No Prescription Required

Bob Iger, the CEO of The Walt Disney Company, will be honored at Ithaca College’s 130th Commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 18, where he will receive an honorary Doctor of Letters degree. A proud alumnus of the college, Iger graduated in 1973 with a degree in television-radio, and his connection to the institution has remained strong throughout his illustrious career.

The honorary doctorate is awarded by the Ithaca College Board of Trustees, who base their decision on faculty recommendations. The honor recognizes individuals whose leadership and accomplishments reflect the core values of Ithaca College and who embody the ideals of its community.

A New Title

Ithaca College President La Jerne Terry Cornish lauded Iger for his exemplary contributions, stating, “There are a multitude of ways in which Bob Iger is truly deserving of this honor. We deeply appreciate his contributions to Ithaca College, our students, and the community at large. Our institutional mission is to educate, engage, and empower through theory, practice, and performance, and he is the personification of that mission.”

Iger’s rise to prominence began at ABC, where he cultivated his expertise across every aspect of television, from news to entertainment, sports, program acquisition, and business affairs. His multifaceted experience laid the foundation for one of the most influential careers in business history.
