On March 1, 2022, Disney opened its newest hotel at the Walt Disney World Resort — the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser. However, the Galactic Starcruiser was not just any Disney hotel. The Galactic Starcruiser is a fully immersive two-day experience, in which Guests can have amazing experiences like joining the rebellion, training with lightsabers, feasting on gourmet galactic treats, and spending time with some of their favorite characters, like Chewbacca. The Galactic Starcruiser is a one-of-a-kind experience for Star Wars fans, but it comes with a high price tag.
For just two Guests to experience the Galactic Starcruiser, the minimum cost is $4,800, with prices going all the way up to $6,000 for three adults and two children to enjoy the experience. Before the hotel even opened, Guests were shocked at the astronomical price tag — which also includes a trip to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. While bookings quickly filled up for voyages weeks and months in advance, cancellations overwhelmed Disney as planned voyages began to reach the “no-refund” date.
Apparently, things have not gotten better in terms of bookings, and the Galactic Starcruiser is still struggling to fill its 100 cabins. In fact, according to a new report from The Orange County Register, the hotel is struggling so much that Disney has decided to cancel half of the voyages that should have happened this fall, beginning in October.
According to a press release sent out to travel agents:
“When the voyage calendar is live, you may notice the schedule has been modified to provide two voyages per week, except for holiday weeks where we may have three voyages. We’ve been learning a lot during our first year of operation and have adjusted voyage dates to meet the needs of our guests.”
This is not the first time in recent months that the Galactic Starcruiser has had to change things up in a drastic way to try to fill its cabins. In November, Disney announced that Disney Vacation Club members would be able to receive a 30% discount for staying at the Galactic Starcruiser during certain times. It was the first time that any type of discount had been offered on the experience. The Starcruiser was also struggling so much to fill its rooms that it cut down from two dinner services per night to one.
It is important to note that none of the already scheduled Galactic Starcruiser voyages have been canceled at this time. Disney is simply offering fewer voyages this coming fall. Disney has also not said when it will return to its normal number of voyages.
