Disney’s animated Tangled, released in 2010, brought the story of Rapunzel to life with humor, heart, and unforgettable songs. The film follows Rapunzel, a princess with magical hair, as she escapes her tower and discovers the world outside, all while being pursued by her overbearing captor/fake mother, Mother Gothel.
With its stunning animation and hit songs like “I See the Light,” and “When Will My Life Begin,” the movie became a modern Disney classic.

This subtle social media activity has reignited conversations about who could bring the scheming villain to life. While Disney has yet to confirm any casting decisions, Lopez’s potential involvement has sparked both excitement and debate among fans.
Fans Share Their Thoughts
As the rumor spread, fans took to social media to voice their opinions. Supporters of Lopez pointed to her commanding presence and acting skills as reasons she could excel in the role.
One enthusiastic fan wrote:
“J.Lo as Mother Gothel? Yes, please! She has the charisma and the acting chops to nail it.”

However, some fans expressed skepticism about whether Lopez could deliver vocally for the role’s signature song, “Mother Knows Best.”
One commenter stated:
“Love J.Lo, but I’m not sure her voice fits Mother Gothel’s iconic song. She’d need to bring serious vocal power.”
Other fans even suggested alternative casting choices, with Cher emerging as a fan favorite for her larger-than-life persona and vocal prowess.
The Casting Debate
While Lopez is the latest celebrity linked to the project, she’s not the first to be rumored for Mother Gothel. Kathryn Hahn, known for her scene-stealing performance as Agatha Harkness in WandaVision and Agatha All Along, has long been a fan-favorite contender for the role, with many citing her ability to balance humor and menace.
As for Rapunzel, actresses like Sabrina Carpenter and Florence Pugh have been frequently mentioned in fan discussions. Each brings their own unique charm and talent that could shine in the role of the spirited princess.
While casting for the live-action Tangled remains unconfirmed, fans continue to dream about their ideal lineup. With Disney’s recent successes in live-action adaptations, the pressure is on to deliver a film that honors the original while bringing something fresh to the table.

I think Lopez would be good, but Cher has a voice that would make her a better fit for the role of mother Gothel.I think Johnny Strong would be good for the role of Flynn Ryder. Mandy Moore for Rapunzel.
No way! They need to bring in some no- names or at least very low profile actors for the cast- that’s when everything is at its best for a film bc then the audience doesn’t go in with preconceived feelings towards anyone. I was VERY jazzed up about Will Smith playing Genie in Aladdin but was so disappointed bc he fell flat in my opinion. They should’ve brought in the guy who plays Genie in the Broadway show- would’ve been so much better!
