Disney’s Popular Perk Ends Next Year, But There’s Another Catch Coming This Weekend

As Disneyland Resort celebrates 70 years of magic, guests will soon notice a few changes that reflect both the resort’s exciting future and its ever-evolving operations. While expansion projects like DisneylandForward, the upcoming doubling of Avengers Campus, and the introduction of the Avatar experience prepare to usher in a new era, this fall brings a more immediate update for resort visitors. The Halloween Half Marathon Weekend, taking place September 4 through 7, 2025, will temporarily shift the Early Entry schedule. On Friday, September 5, Disneyland Park will host Early Entry, while Disney California Adventure Park will offer the extra half-hour advantage on Saturday, September 6. Once the event concludes, the normal routine will return: Disneyland Park opens early on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, with Disney California Adventure offering early access Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

This race weekend marks one of the final runDisney events before the program once again pauses on the West Coast. The Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend, running January 29 through February 1, 2026, will be the last before the events are suspended to accommodate resort-wide construction.

The Early Entry benefit, introduced in 2021, has long provided hotel guests with an extra thirty minutes in the parks. That program will end on January 5, 2026. Beginning shortly after, hotel guests will instead receive one Lightning Lane pass per person per day—a new way to enhance their stay while the resort undergoes significant changes.

Although the adjustments to Early Entry during the Halloween Half Marathon Weekend are brief, they signal a larger transition ahead for the resort. With so many exciting developments on the horizon, from major expansions to beloved seasonal events, Disneyland continues to balance its rich heritage with forward-looking experiences. Guests visiting in the coming months can still enjoy the Early Entry perk, but they’ll want to make the most of it while it remains available. The Disneyland Resort is moving toward a future filled with new opportunities for storytelling, experiences, and guest benefits.

Thomas Hitchen

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer except when it's One Tree Hill. He loves sandy beach walks, forest hikes, and foodie days out in the Big City. Thomas lives in England, UK, with his fiancée, baby, and their dog, a Border Collie called Luna.
