Don’t Miss These Lesser-Known Closures When Planning Your 2025 Disney World Vacation

A trip to Disney World in 2025 might require more planning than usual, as multiple ride and pool closures are set to affect guests throughout the year.

While Disney regularly refurbishes attractions to keep them running smoothly, the number of closures happening at the same time this year is higher than usual. For those visiting in the coming months, it’s important to be aware of what won’t be available and what alternatives exist.

One of the biggest changes guests will notice is the closure of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom. This iconic roller coaster shut down on January 6, 2025, for a massive refurbishment that will last into 2026.

The project involves a full retracking of the ride and potential new features, but it also means that Frontierland will feel different without one of its biggest attractions.

EPCOT’s Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros also went down for maintenance earlier this year, though it is expected to return by mid-March. In Animal Kingdom, Kali River Rapids is going through its usual winter closure, with a planned reopening in early spring.

Astro Orbiter in Tomorrowland is also unavailable for an extended period, with a refurbishment that could last up to eight months. These closures will force guests to adjust their itineraries, as some of the most popular attractions won’t be options during their visit.

Beyond the theme parks, several Disney World resort pools are also closing for extended periods. Stormalong Bay at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts is one of the most significant closures, shutting down from January through June 2025.

This includes not just the main pool, but also the lazy river and pirate ship slide, leaving guests to use the resort’s smaller leisure pools instead. Over at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort, the Fantasia Pool is closed from January through April, though the Duck Pond Pool will remain available. The Grand Floridian’s Courtyard Pool is also closing for maintenance between January 27 and late February, though guests can still enjoy the Beach Pool.

The total number of pool closures for 2025 sits at three, but Disney has already announced additional refurbishments for 2026, including work on the Surfboard Bay Pool and kiddie pool at All-Star Sports Resort, as well as the Bay Cove Pool and whirlpool spa at Bay Lake Tower. Guests planning to book a stay at any of these hotels should double-check Disney’s website for updates, as refurbishments are always subject to change.

For those visiting Disney World in 2025, these closures may require adjustments to travel plans. While there are still plenty of rides, pools, and attractions to enjoy, knowing in advance what won’t be available can help guests avoid disappointment. Checking Disney’s official announcements before finalizing a trip is the best way to ensure the vacation meets expectations.
