It’s no secret that Walt Disney’s entire entertainment division has been struggling. Over the past two years, Walt Disney Studios’ film releases have been disasters, and their television releases haven’t faired much better.

Disney CEO Bob Iger’s plan to fix it was to shake up the film lineup for 2024. However, after only a month in the new year, Disney has once again decided to change its lineup.

Last week, Disney announced that it would be adding another film to its lineup and would be adding a new Disney Animation Studios film next November. But despite that announcement, no further details were announced about the film.

But despite all the recent failures, Disney Plus had a massive hit with Percy Jackson‘s first season. However, Disney did not use the momentum created by that show to announce a second season. Most experts agree that a second season is coming, but Disney has not made an official announcement yet.

One Disney star seems to think he knows why there haven’t been any updates on several highly-anticipated new seasons. Obi-Wan Kenobi himself, Ewan McGregor, sat down for an interview with Variety to address several issues, including the second season of his Star Wars show, Obi-Wan. McGregor blamed the problems Disney is currently facing for the lack of a second season.

McGregor said:

I would love to do the second season, but there’s no talk of it yet. There is a lot going on at Disney.

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy announced several new Star Wars shows coming to Disney Plus in 2024 but did not announce a second season for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series or Andor.

Kennedy did announce a new Star Wars movie starring Daisy Ridley and a Mandalorian film coming out soon.

However, Disney’s current issues are holding back announcements on some of the most-anticipated second seasons for Disney Plus shows. Hopefully, Disney will get it together and give Star Wars, and Percy Jackson fans what they want.

Playing Obi-Wan

The Star Wars actor also addressed the pressure that comes with playing one of the most iconic characters in cinematic history and filling the shoes of Sir Alec Guinness.

McGregor said:

It wasn’t a done deal for me. I didn’t think it was at all who I was. I believed, at that point, I was a Danny Boyle actor. ‘The Beach’ was more important and I meant it, it wasn’t flippant. I did ask a lot of people for advice. I am happy that I am this character for a lot of people, but when these films came out, they were so disliked. That was hard. The first one was panned and we still had to make another two! It was weird to be in a film that was hammered.

Critics and fans mostly panned the prequel trilogy, but so were the final three films. Like dozens of other Star Wars actors, McGregor has learned that it’s difficult to please the rabid fan base.

But hopefully, he will get another chance with a second season of Obi-Wan.
