The extinction clock has struck its final hour for DinoLand U.S.A. at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. This beloved roadside theme park within a theme park closes permanently on Sunday, January 12, marking the end of an era that began with the fourth Central Florida Disney park’s grand opening on April 22, 1998.
Guests flocked to the area throughout the weekend to bid farewell to the roadside carnival-themed land and its attractions. For over 25 years, DinoLand U.S.A. provided a unique mix of prehistoric fun and nostalgia, but Disney has confirmed that change is on the horizon as they make way for a new chapter.
The Last Roar of DinoLand U.S.A.
DinoLand U.S.A. has been a staple of Disney’s Animal Kingdom since day one. Known for its quirky, kitschy charm, it featured a mix of attractions, including the family-friendly TriceraTop Spin ride, carnival-style Fossil Fun Games, and DINOSAUR. This thrilling dark ride will continue to operate for now.
However, Disney Parks fans have long speculated about the land’s future. The closure of Primeval Whirl in 2020, followed by the removal of its remains and the appearance of construction walls, signaled an ominous fate. Now, the final decision has been made, and the last day of operation saw an outpouring of emotion from Disney Parks fans who grew up exploring the land’s many offerings.
This weekend, Disney Parks fans flocked for a last bit of DinoLand U.S.A. nostalgia. As of park closing on Sunday, the following attractions will close for good:
- Chester & Hester’s DinoRama (including Fossil Fun Games)
- Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures
- TriceraTop Spin
On its final day, fans can’t win the signature Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, or dinosaur plush prizes, as the last of these exclusive items sold out on Saturday. Guests can still play the Fossil Fun Games, but the prizes have been replaced by generic Disney plush. From @vincentprologo on X (formerly known as Twitter):

New Beginnings: What’s Next for Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park?
DinoLand U.S.A. is closing to make way for a new land inspired by the Tropical Americas. Walt Disney World Resort has announced that this area, named Pueblo Esperanza, will celebrate the vibrant cultures of Central and South America. The new land will include attractions based on Disney’s Encanto (2021). In addition, DINOSAUR will eventually be reimagined with an Indiana Jones theme, similar to its counterpart at Disneyland Park.
Fans of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park can take some solace in the fact that key attractions like DINOSAUR, Restaurantosaurus, and the Boneyard playground will remain open throughout 2025. This transition period offers guests one last chance to say goodbye to their favorite parts of the prehistoric-themed area.
