The Walt Disney Company has faced a lot of setbacks at the box office this year, but they refuse to give up. In light of the company’s 100th anniversary, several of the most popular films from across its long history will be heading back to theaters for a limited time throughout the next few months. While many would expect these offerings to be from all 100 years, Disney’s film choices only cover the past three decades interestingly. This Disney movie special engagement will last until the end of October, but whether it will be a worthwhile success remains to be seen. Continue reading below to discover which films Disney has chosen and when they will be in theaters.

Disney Movie Special Engagement Lineup
The first film being shown is Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. Disney Animation offerings include Frozen, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, and Moana. Pixar rounds out the engagement with Toy Story, The Incredibles, and Coco.

- Toy Story will run from July 21 to August 3.
- Frozen will run from August 4 to August 17.
- Beauty and the Beast will run from August 18 to August 31.

Fans on social media have reacted with mixed feelings. Some of them are extremely excited to see some of these older movies in the theater again. However, it has not escaped their notice that none of them came from before the early 1990s. Disney has a vast amount of celebrated and loved classics, which makes it odd to some that they are picking certain options that have only been out of theaters for less than a decade.
Really disappointing that this is supposed to be a celebration of 100 years, yet the oldest of these eight films is only 32 years old! I’m bummed that there’s no Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Fantasia, 20,000 Leagues Under Sea, Mary Poppins, or any Walt-era films!

At this time, the special engagement is only announced for cinemas in the United States. Disney has pointed fans to Fandango to get tickets. It will be extremely interesting to see if this event can draw a worthwhile crowd, as the high ticket costs and low theater attendance have been a problem for even Disney’s newest movie releases.
