Disney Parks seem to change weekly, even daily, and planning a vacation to Walt Disney World or Disneyland takes research, no matter how seasoned you are as a Disney Guest.

To stay on top of Disney happenings, fans turn to popular vloggers on social media who attend the Parks regularly. Not to mention vloggers’ constant presence in the Parks has been met with backlash from die-hard Disney fans. While live-streaming popular attractions might give viewers an exclusive look into a Disney vacation, it disrupts the Guests around them.

Some famous YouTube stars are respectful in their filming and presentation of real-time Disney moments. Still, the inundation of Disney content has given Guests a peek behind the Disney curtain that was never intended to happen. Disney used to neatly tie its Park tips and trips into a Minnie Mouse bow and deliver it to fans whether they were planning a trip or not. And nostalgic fans are summoning that pure Disney magic to make its return.

Once Upon a Disney Promotion

Long before influencers’ phone flashes interrupted rides like Pirates of the Caribbean, an enthusiastic narrator set the stage with uplifting songs while visions of fans’ favorite Disney attractions danced across the screen. Detailing the Most Magical Place on Earth with scenes from the perfect Disney World vacation and even Disney Cruise Line highlights, the Walt Disney Company planning videos were the ultimate source for Disney fanatics.

In a viral post on Reddit, u/jbedenian resurfaced a retired Disney practice that sparked a trip down memory lane:

I wish Disney still made the WDW vacation planning dvds… I understand why they don’t make them anymore and frankly, much like the rest of you in the sub, I don’t need them, but when I’m down, miss Disney, or getting excited about an upcoming trip, I play a 2019 version I found on YouTube and it feels like I’m back in the magic. If they just made like a 30 minute video that highlights the best parts of the parks and hotels, that’d be amazing and would ease my Disney cravings.

We all know DVD players aren’t even in most homes anymore, but the idea of Disney creating original content to promote Parks and Resorts scratches the Disney itch for die-hard fans. Those who have become accustomed to family (or even solo) Disney vacations typically leave the Walt Disney World Resort already craving the next vacation, and these simple planning videos helped fill the void.

Motion to Revive the Magical Videos

At a time when Park prices are higher than ever, and Disney vacations are harder to plan for many with the post-pandemic policies from recent years, there’s no time like now to revive the ’ole planning videos. Get a whiff of nostalgia with this video from 2009:

Many Disney fans like u/obernius reminisced about watching Disney planning videos on repeat before or after a Disney vacation:

I remember re-watching old ones even long after the trip had passed. It was a glimpse into the WDW of the past.

The simple videos are a reminder of simpler times—not just at Disney but in the world at large. Vacations were easier to come by when the economy was more stable, masks weren’t even a thought in anyone’s mind, and no one revealed the mechanics of Disney’s magic behind the scenes.

While it’s doubtful Disney will make planning videos an initiative with its endless promotions via social media bloggers and vloggers, Disney fans hope the nostalgic Mickey masterpieces appear on Disney+ for the masses to relive together.
