Guests Upset After Disney “Ruined” the Magic During Ride Breakdown

The Haunted Mansion is one of the most beloved Disney rides there is. It’s become so popular that the attraction even inspired a movie with Eddie Murphy in 2003. It was so well-received that the Walt Disney Company announced a remake of the film due for theatrical release this summer. The dark ride has been known to have some of the longest wait times at the Disney Parks—fans wait for hours to get a chance to experience it.

What makes the Haunted Mansion so unique?

Simply put, the Haunted Mansion is spooktacular. With its eerie atmosphere and Victorian or Gothic mansion (depending on the Disney Park—Magic Kingdom Park in Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland Park in Disneyland Resort), the ride gave us some of our favorite characters. Think like the Ghost Host and Madame Leota, to name a few. The ride takes Guests through scenes filled with ghostly apparitions, ghoulish characters, and supernatural effects.

It’s the ultimate Disney experience. All Disney Fanatics know the thrill of hearing those first words, “Welcome, foolish mortals…”

Guest’s Haunted Mansion experience ruined

The magic of the Haunted Mansion lies in its supernatural flavor. And that flavor was ruined for some Disney Guests. Recently, the ride broke down at Disneyland Resort—an occurrence that, while unfortunate, does happen—and those onboard the attraction caught some behind-the-scenes footage of the Haunted Mansion in full light.

The Guests were escorted off the ride, and took a video to share the view of the attraction, stating they would “never see it the same way again” and that it was “the day the magic got ruined.”

Some fans took the opportunity to share their less-than-savory experiences with Disney, stating, “it’s my favorite ride, splash mountain is gone too, I think this is a sign, for me to not go to Disney anymore. The cost and broken rides.”

However, others took the chance to find the humor in the situation: “Wait a minute! This isn’t a real sounds room and these things aren’t actually floating on their own? Mind blown.”

Another fan even shared that these experiences were what “made” Disney for them. They shared, “This type of thing MAKES it for me! I love to see how things are done and then I feel like I could make my own! Peppers ghost for Halloween is great!”

Different Guests have different reactions to happenings at the Parks. However, it’s important to note that in the circumstance of a ride breakdown, Cast Members are well-trained to ensure Guests stay safe and will do their best to ensure that magic is still made despite the circumstances.
