Disney Fans Are Calling It: This Popular Ride Is Not Worth the Wait, Here’s Why

Good things come to those who wait, but Disney fans continue to express frustrations in one of Walt Disney World’s longest-awaited ride debuts.

Over five years in the making, Tomorrowland’s newest addition was slated to slay the Disney scene. Based on the popular 1982 sci-fi film starring Jeff Bridges, TRON Light Cycle / Run launches Disney Guests on Lightcycle bikes at 59 mph straight into the grid.

The fastest roller coaster presented by Walt Disney Imagineering at the Disney Resort and a welcome addition to the land where Space Mountain has reigned since 1975, TRON promised to up the ante in Magic Kingdom. Following Shanghai Disneyland’s iteration of TRON, the coaster began boarding passengers on April 4, and Disney Guests haven’t always met it with rave reviews.

Long Queue, Short Ride

Being a zippy coaster with a high-powered launch, it’s unsurprising TRON wouldn’t carry on like the leisurely Jungle Cruise. That said, Disney Guests took to the most magical subreddit to call out vast improvements TRON could make. While no one wants to wait another five years for updates, Reddit user u/TheRealDealTys kicked off the discussion in the original post:

A bit late making this post as the ride has been open for a while now but I can’t help feeling disappointed with Tron, first off it’s just a bit to short of a ride to justify waking up at 7AM or rushing to get there at 1PM just to ride it as it’s just not worth the effort for me.

Anyone else a bit disappointed with Tron?

Woes with TRON’s virtual queue have been a hot topic of discussion among Guests, but the Redditor continued:

I still feel like it could have been built so much faster especially looking at how fast Universal built Velocicoaster. When it comes to the ride layout itself I know it’s a bit more restrictive due to how your seated in the ride vehicle but I still feel like nothing really notable happens once you enter the show building and the mid course brake runs slow the pace of the coaster for better or worse.

Guests have had to plan their Park days around 7:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. virtual queue offerings, navigating boarding times while managing Genie Plus and Lightning Lane reservations for other rides. Beyond the queue falling short, u/der_innkeeper pointed to a misgiving in the new attraction’s storyline:

Biggest disconnect for me was the queue computer saying there were 8 gates. Then, the ride ended after 6. It was kinda jarring, and short.

The TRON Update Guests Are Craving

In addition to virtual queue cleanups and storyline tweaks, Guests have griped about TRON’s logistics. It’s been said that the TRON ride vehicle doesn’t accommodate Guests of a certain size—specifically their calves. Some Disney Guests have even worn compression garments to fit their legs to the ride vehicle, prompting Disney to adjust the last row of the ride to offer more calf space.

More Redditors on the thread were focused on a missed TRON opportunity, pointing to the Shanghai Disneyland version. Redditor u/gardenofshadows set the proposal into motion:

I would have loved it if they’d “plussed” (to use a Disney term) it from the Shanghai version. To be specific: this concept BEGS to be a dueling coaster. And longer.

Another commenter, u/juiceiskindawack, shared the dueling coaster sentiment:

it needs to be longer and a twin racer type coaster. thats my only complaint.

Some Disney fans disagreed with the disappointment, praising its theming and propping TRON up as their favorite ride in Walt Disney World. While the TRON buzz could be a symptom of Disney’s E-ticket promotion and mounting anticipation after a half-decade wait, Disney might consider making some speedy tweaks to its fastest coaster.
