On March 28, 2022, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed into law the Parental Rights in Education Bill, HB 1557. And folks at The Walt Disney Company are not happy about it.
Branded by dissenters as the “Don’t Say Gay Bill,” the education reform bill is intended to keep all sexual education and genders identity out of the curriculum for students in Kindergarten through Third Grade.
Gov. DeSantis said that Florida school kids will receive an “education,” not an “indoctrination.”

After attempting to remain neutral on the matter, Disney CEO Bob Chapek caved to the aggressively vocal contingent of company employees to take a stand against the Florida State Legislature. Minutes after the Governor signed the bill surrounded by school kids and their parents, The Company released a statement that the company all but declared war on , as the media conglomerate commits to supporting efforts to repeal the new law:
“Florida’s HB 1157, also known as the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill, should never have passed and should never have been signed into law. Our goal as a company is for this law to be repealed by the legislature or struck down in the courts, and we remain committed to supporting the national and state organizations working to achieve that. We are dedicated to standing up for the rights and safety of LGBTQ+ members of the Disney family, as well as the LGBTQ+ community in Florida and across the country.”

Disney is not the only entertainment company to be making this stand. Just last night, the Hollywood elites mocked the State of Florida by chanting “Gay Gay Gay” during the opening monologue of the 94th Academy Awards.
But Governor DeSantis remains steadfast in his commitment to keeping Florida parents in control of their children’s education, no matter what Hollywood throws at the Sunshine State.
According to WESH 2, he said, “If the people who held Harvey Weinstein up oppose us on parents’ rights, I wear that like a badge of honor. I’m not backing down.”

Despite HB 1557 clearly stating that it prohibits all sexual and gender discussion in the classrooms of kindergarteners–regardless of orientation–protest-hungry left-wing LGBTQ+ activists have raised voices against the legislation, especially within The Walt Disney Company. Those vocal shots capped with #DisneySayGay and #DisneyDoBetter culminated in lackluster walkouts across the country–with one lonely picketer at Walt Disney World. But walkouts for inclusion appear to have only caused division among Cast Members and Guests–especially as the Company and remain mute on atrocities happening in . One has to worry about how such poignant political stances can damage the company going forward.
