If you’re a politician, there is never a good time to have a terrible stretch. But when you’re running for President of the United States, all you want to hear is good news. But for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, there is no good news lately. The Governor, currently running for the Republican nomination for President, has been taking it on the chin the last couple of weeks, and things just got significantly worse for him.
After a Series of Losses, DeSantis Attacks Disney in Vicious New Ad
Just this week, former President Donald Trump torches DeSantis on Fox News, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie questioned DeSantis’ toughness over his feud with the Walt Disney Company, and a story came out that “man of the people” Ron DeSantis only flies private planes and received a golf simulator from a wealthy donor.
And as if that wasn’t enough, DeSantis’ feud with Disney is crushing his popularity among voters. DeSantis saw his numbers drop sharply, while Disney’s popularity remained strong. And then there were the firefighters. DeSantis’ Central Florida Tourism Oversight District now has a public feud with the Reedy Creek Fire Department. The same fire department that openly supported the new board and endorsed Gov DeSantis in his 2022 run for Governor.
With a stretch like that, what else could go wrong? Don’t ask. Former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan has called DeSantis’ campaign “one of the worst I have seen so far,” and believes the feud with the Walt Disney Company is destroying DeSantis’ brand.
Hogan told Newsweek:
I think it is getting close to being over for DeSantis. I think DeSantis has really underperformed. He started out, and we have seen this happen before in other races, as the one getting all the attention. There was wall-to-wall coverage on Fox News. he was the only one other than Trump that was really getting a lot of attention and he raised a ton of money. Then he started making all kinds of mistakes. I think the campaign is one of the worst I have seen so far, and he has dropped like a rock.
The Disney/DeSantis feud with the Walt Disney Company started with its response to Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill. Governor DeSantis and Florida Lawmakers responded by stripping Disney World of its self-governing power. The entire mess is now tied up in lawsuits in Federal Court.
The Florida Governor has been using the feud to rile up Republican voters, accusing Disney of being “woke” and attacking the company in a vicious ad airing in South Carolina and Iowa. But so far, it has to resinated with the average Republican voter.
DeSantis is trailing Trump by more than 30 percent in National Polls. His strategy of attacking Disney is not working, and Hogan seems to agree.
