Wednesday Addams could have a lot more mysteries left to solve.
Season 3 of Wednesday is already in production, but the future of Netflix’s hit series may stretch well beyond the next batch of episodes. Executive producers Miles Millar and Alfred Gough reportedly have ambitions that could keep Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday at Nevermore Academy for years.
If those plans eventually become reality, the series could reach seven seasons.
Netflix hasn’t committed to anything close to that yet. Still, the idea offers an interesting look at how much story the producers believe remains, especially as Wednesday gets older and potentially moves beyond Nevermore.
Wednesday Is Already Coming Back for Season 3
Before looking several seasons ahead, Netflix already has Wednesday’s immediate future covered.
The streamer officially renewed Wednesday for Season 3 in July 2025, making the announcement before Season 2 even premiered. Production eventually began near Dublin in February 2026, bringing Ortega back for another round of supernatural mysteries.
Season 3 will also expand the cast.
Winona Ryder, Chris Sarandon, Noah Taylor, Oscar Morgan, and Kennedy Moyer are among the newcomers. Eva Green will also enter the story as Ophelia, the long-lost sister of Morticia Addams.
Meanwhile, Millar and Gough have teased new students and teachers at Nevermore, along with more secrets involving the Addams family. A behind-the-scenes look from Netflix has also suggested that Wednesday could find herself in Paris during the upcoming season.
There’s clearly plenty happening in Season 3, but the producers apparently aren’t building it as an ending.
The Producers Could Keep Wednesday at Nevermore for Years
Millar and Gough reportedly want Wednesday’s Nevermore story to continue well beyond Season 3.
The producers reportedly “hope to keep Wednesday enrolled through the character’s Nevermore tenure, which lasts seven years (or seasons).”
That’s a major distinction from Netflix actually renewing the series for seven seasons. The streamer has only formally confirmed Season 3, meaning Seasons 4 through 7 remain hypothetical for now.
Still, reaching seven seasons would create an interesting logistical problem.
Season 1 premiered in 2022, but Season 2 didn’t arrive until 2025. Similar gaps would become increasingly difficult if the story intends to follow Wednesday through her school years. Ortega and the younger cast members will naturally continue getting older.
Netflix could eventually speed up production between seasons. The writers could also use larger time jumps as Wednesday approaches adulthood.
That could give the series even more places to go.
Nevermore Doesn't Have to Be Wednesday's Final Stop
Seven seasons could eventually take Wednesday far outside the school that has defined much of the series.
Graduation would provide an obvious turning point. The writers could build toward one final Nevermore mystery before sending Wednesday into an entirely different environment.
College is one possibility. A new school could surround Wednesday with unfamiliar characters, enemies, relationships, and mysteries while preserving the formula that made the series successful.
Her investigative skills could also become more important as she gets older. Wednesday has already shown a fascination with mysteries, making a future as a private investigator another possible direction.
The show could also dig deeper into her friendships, family relationships, and love life as those characters mature.
But Wednesday herself may not be the only character Netflix could follow.
The Addams Family Could Grow Beyond One Series
Gough has already confirmed that discussions about a possible spinoff have taken place.
“It’s something we’re definitely noodling; there are other characters we can look at,” Gough said.
The possibilities aren't limited to one obvious character. A spinoff could center on another Addams family member, someone from Nevermore, or another supporting character from Wednesday's world.
“There’s a lot to explore in the Addams Family.”
No main character or specific spinoff concept has been officially announced, so those discussions haven't turned into a confirmed series yet. Still, they show that there are ideas for expanding the world beyond Wednesday's individual adventures.
Season 3 Could Be Just the Beginning
For now, Wednesday's future rests with Season 3.
Production is underway, and the next season is expected sometime in 2027, although Netflix hasn't announced an official premiere date. A late 2027 arrival remains an expectation rather than a confirmed release window.
Anything beyond Season 3 remains uncertain, too.
Netflix hasn't ordered seven seasons, and plenty would need to happen before Wednesday reaches that milestone. But Millar and Gough apparently see a much longer road ahead.
Nevermore could carry Wednesday through several more mysteries before graduation opens another door. From college and investigative work to more Addams family stories, reaching the end of school wouldn't necessarily mean reaching the end of Wednesday Addams.
