Gina Carano’s ‘Star Wars’ Comeback Possible After Disney Settlement

Gina Carano’s legal dispute with Disney and Lucasfilm has officially come to a close, but the end of one battle might open the door to another — her possible return to Star Wars.

The former Mandalorian star, known for playing Rebel shock trooper Cara Dune, reached a settlement with Disney earlier this year after the actor alleged she was wrongfully terminated. Carano was dismissed in 2021 following a string of social media posts the company labeled “abhorrent and unacceptable.”

While the terms of the settlement remain private, the timing has sparked some speculation about whether the actress could reappear in the galaxy far, far away — particularly in The Mandalorian & Grogu, the upcoming film continuation of the Disney+ series.

There’s been no sign of that happening, though. Dune’s absence was addressed in Season 3, with Greef Karga (the late Carl Weathers) explaining that she’d been “recruited by special forces” off screen. The spinoff series Rangers of the New Republic, which Carano was originally set to lead, was scrapped soon after her firing.

Since then, neither the character nor the actress has resurfaced anywhere in Star Wars media.

But now, with The Mandalorian & Grogu struggling to generate excitement, some fans wonder whether Disney might consider anything — even a controversial cameo — to spark interest. The first trailer failed to make much impact online, with many pointing out that it looked more like an extended episode than a theatrical event. Watch it below:

That muted reaction highlights a broader issue: Star Wars fatigue. Years of uneven projects, from The Rise of Skywalker to The Acolyte, have dulled enthusiasm. It doesn’t help that The Mandalorian itself lost momentum after Season 3’s lukewarm reception.

Reshoots for the film could be possible, though nothing suggests Carano’s involvement. Still, cameos have long been Lucasfilm’s go-to move to reignite fan excitement. Whether through nostalgia or controversy, Cara Dune’s return would certainly get people talking.

But whether Disney dares to revisit Carano’s chapter in the saga remains to be seen.

The Mandalorian & Grogu releases in May 2026. It stars Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin alongside Sigourney Weaver, Jeremy Allen White, and Jonny Coyne.
