Gina Carano’s Cara Dune once looked like a key figure in the expanding Star Wars TV universe. From her debut in The Mandalorian Season 1, the ex-shock trooper became a staple of the series—until she wasn’t.
Following Carano’s highly publicized split from Disney in early 2021 over controversial social media activity, the character was written out entirely. The Mandalorian Season 3 made it official: Cara Dune had been recruited by the New Republic Special Forces and was no longer in play. It was a quiet, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it send-off for a character once poised to headline her own series, Rangers of the New Republic, which was also canceled.
Now, Carano’s lawsuit against Lucasfilm is underway, with “Gina Carano v. The Walt Disney Company“ set to begin in September. But could Cara Dune still return elsewhere in the faraway galaxy at some point? Well, it seems unlikely, but there might be some hope.

Enter “Star Wars Outlaws”. Ubisoft’s open-world game set in the criminal underworld set between Star Wars: Episode V — The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Star Wars: Episode VI — Return of the Jedi (1983), just a few years before The Mandalorian (2019), is already bringing back a fan-favorite character in an upcoming DLC (downloadable content).
The newly announced “Pirate’s Fortune” will bring back Weequay pirate Hondo Ohnaka from the animated television shows Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) and Star Wars: Rebels (2018), which suggests that more familiar faces could return in future story packs.
If Disney wants to test the waters with Cara Dune again, this could be the safest format—especially with a new voice and a slight redesign.
But what about live action? Well, with Ahsoka Season 2 and The Mandalorian and Grogu movie now in pre-production, there’s still a window of opportunity to reintroduce the character. But any return would require a recast. Despite the Carano/Disney controversy, Cara Dune remains a fan-favorite—just one caught in the crossfire of a real-world battle.

The quickest way to tank a new game or show would be to recast this character either in voice or appearance! But Disney is stocked full of idiots so they will probably go this route and then wonder why it pisses people off. Fans will not accept anything other than the real deal as Cara Dune. We are fine with her being off in the galaxy elsewhere living her best life.
Only Gina. A Strong, Independent Woman I’d like to see in charge with a Republic Squad.
Disney only wants woke subservient princesses.
