‘Goosebumps’ Ends, But Disney’s New Mystery Series Promises Thrills

Disney has big plans for the future of its supernatural lineup, as the network moves on from its recently canceled Goosebumps series. Fans of spooky thrillers may have been disappointed by the series’ cancellation after just two seasons, but Disney is already planning what’s next for fans of eerie content. The network has greenlit a new series that will replace Goosebumps, and it promises to deliver thrills and chills for audiences who are still hungry for a good supernatural mystery.

While details are still being revealed, Disney has confirmed that the upcoming show, based on the book series Eerie Elementary by Jack Chabert (pen name for Max Brallier), is already in the works and will bring a fresh twist to the genre.

Deadline released more information on the upcoming series:

In Eerie Prep (aka Eerie Academy), when her sister vanishes from the prestigious Eerie Prep, Sam Graves (Mills) assembles a team of uniquely skilled students to uncover the truth behind a series of strange, supernatural occurrences—and to confront whoever, or whatever, is behind the disappearance.

The main cast of the pilot, written by David H. Steinberg and Keetgi Kogan, directed by Eric Dean Seaton and showrun by M. Raven Metzner, also includes Niko Ceci (I Woke a Vampire), Charlie Ellis, Madison Rojas, Michaela Russell and Alex Bar, with Hanna Huffman and Felicia Day guest starring.

Ceci and Ellis play Sam’s best friends Antonio and Lucy, respectively. Rojas plays Paxton, Russell plays Krla, Bar plays Devon, Huffman plays Quinn, and Day plays Dr. Brewster.

While the new series will clearly keep the eerie vibe, it will differ from its source material in some key ways, including the characters’ ages and the school setting. The original Eerie Elementary series followed Sam on his first day of hall monitor duties at his elementary school, but the Disney adaptation is set to introduce a more mature setting and a new set of challenges for Sam and her friends.

Disney has also changed Sam from a young boy to a teenage girl.

While we don’t yet know when the series will premiere, its green light and intriguing premise suggest that Disney has big plans for the show. For those eager to see the series come to life, there’s still plenty of anticipation to build before its debut. Fans of supernatural stories, especially those who were drawn to the eerie atmosphere of Goosebumps, will likely be excited to see where Eerie Prep takes the genre next. But with all the changes to the original concept, Eerie Prep promises to deliver a fresh take on the familiar supernatural thrills.
