While the Walt Disney World Resort and the Disneyland Resort have earned their respective monikers of “The Most Magical Place on Earth” and “The Happiest Place on Earth,” those names can sometimes be challenged in not-so-welcome ways. We have all heard stories of bad Guest behavior at the Disney Parks or rides breaking down and leaving Guests stranded in scary situations. But one of the most recent Guest stories takes the cake for one of the most unfortunate complaints we’ve heard from the Disney Parks.
Most recently, one Guest took to Reddit to share their account from their first trip back to Walt Disney World after 17 years. Overall, they mentioned the trip had been a good experience, except for one thing that left “a really bad impression.”
The Guest detailed,
We rode two different monorails on the way to the contemporary and back (silver/grey and yellow/gold for those wondering) and both absolutely reeked of urine. It was so bad in the silver/grey one that I was nauseous and desperate to get off, even after just the extremely short trip from MK to the contemporary. The stench on the return trip was slightly less but still incredibly obvious and offensive.
The Guest went on to express their disappointment that Disney had let things “slip this far,” and that a company that had “the staff at Steakhouse 71 tripping over themselves to make the experience magical was totally fine with allowing me to arrive at my reservation on toilet tubes.”
While some Guests responded humorously, recalling the state of public transit in their own cities, stating they didn’t notice the state of the monorail in comparison, others explained that the stench was not urine.
One fan explained,
Daily rainstorms.. wet shoes and people… Sweaty wet people… Crowded inside… Doors that are only periodically opened to let a fresh load of sweaty wet people inside… Extreme humidity that keeps things from drying…
…it’s gross, but it’s not urine. And it’s not as bad in the cooler/drier seasons. This week has been exceptionally hot and humid.
Many agreed with this fan, sharing that it was not urine, but “accumulated funk.” One elaborated further, explaining the company that first made the monorails no longer exists and that this transit system desperately needs to be replaced, but “Disney just won’t do it.”
It is important to note that this is one Guest’s account of their Disney Park experience and isn’t necessarily a universal experience at the Parks.
