Many stories of the Disney Parks can take one by surprise. Sometimes it’s the news of bad behavior (even though that’s far more common than we’d like to think), or occasionally, in the worst cases, even abuse, other times, it can be the story of something seemingly strange and unknown. This story, however, is equal parts heartbreaking and genuinely one of the most shocking stories we’ve heard of in a while.

In a recent post online, it’s come to light that a woman tricked her current ex-boyfriend, scamming him into paying for a Walt Disney World vacation that she is taking with her now-fiancé.
The story came to light on an AITA platform on Reddit. The OP, the man in question who was tricked by his present ex-girlfriend, asked, “AITA for demanding my ex girlfriend pays me back for the trip to DisneyWorld I bought her when we were together?”
As he shared, he purchased the tickets as a surprise for his ex-girlfriend as a celebration of their first year together. He shared that his ex had loved Walt Disney World growing up and had been to the Disney Park many times, but he had never been to the Disney destination and planned and paid for the whole trip for them to take together.

The OP shared his girlfriend soon became “sad” and convinced him to gift her the trip without him so she could take her sister with her instead. She shared that she and her sister had never been to the Disney Parks together because “their dad was mean” and so it would be more meaningful a gift if he gave her a trip that the sisters could do together. The OP, confused, eventually relented and transferred everything to his ex’s name.
This is where the story gets murky. The OP shared his girlfriend broke up with him a short few weeks later, a decision he felt “blindsided” by. After initially forgetting about the Disney World issue, he later chose not to bring it up to keep the possibility of their remaining friends open.

The OP’s ex, however, soon began dating another man and got engaged to him three short months into their relationship. Soon, the OP’s ex announced she would go to Disney World with her new fiancé—the kicker? This was the trip the OP had paid for. When the OP tried reaching out to ask his ex to pay him the money back since this was no longer the trip she’d said it would be, she called him “a stalker” and blocked him online.
In the comments, people were largely incredibly sympathetic to the OP and tried brainstorming ways for him to be able to get his money back. However, the process is certainly quite complicated. Many hypothesized that the ex-girlfriend had planned this for months and was trying to take the OP for a ride.
It’s certainly a not-so-magical tale for a trip involving the Magic Kingdom.
