Infuriating Guests Block Disney Hotel Evacuation During Fire Scare

Walt Disney World in Florida sees visitors from all over the world. Amongst these many vacationers are stories of captivating moments and magical experiences. Nevertheless, not everyone encountered at the popular theme park can be gems. Modern culture is obsessed with technology, particularly when it involves phones and capturing moments. However, there is a time and a place for everything.

A popular Disney World hotel was recently evacuated due to a fire scare in the middle of the night. Amongst the fleeing patrons was a family that decided a Disney hotel fire evacuation was the perfect time for a photoshoot.

Jambo House Photoshoot

A guest staying at the Jambo House in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas recently took to the r/WaltDisneyWorld subreddit to vent about a family they encountered at the worst possible moment. Jambo House is a lodge-style resort building within Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas, part of the Walt Disney World Resort.

It offers African-themed accommodations, dining, and wildlife viewing, creating a unique and immersive experience for guests that calls for many pictures. However, a Disney hotel fire evacuation is definitely not a typical part of the experience and one of the most ill-advised times to take selfies.

The guest reported that the fire alarm caused an evacuation of Jambo House at around 2:30 a.m. As patrons fled the building, one family blocked the traffic flow to take selfies of themselves and their children to document the moment. This caused much aggravation as many guests had no idea whether the threat was real or just a false alarm. The user expressed their frustration in the thread.

Seriously, people. While the fire alarm going off at 2:30am at Jambo House may be nothing (or a fire alarm going off anywhere, really), you stopping the flow of traffic to take selfies with you and your children on the stairs is ridiculous. You are holding up people evacuating a building in case of a fire for a picture?

Responses Flame Culprits

People obviously agreed with the poster. Responses could not believe that this family would be dumb enough to delay the pace of a fire evacuation in the middle of the night.

Why would anyone take a photo at a moment like that… people are dumb.

One post had little decorum in its response. They made a case for just pushing the selfie-takers out of the way and not allowing the behavior to hold anyone up.

Just push them out of the way – who cares about stopping and staying out of the picture, just push past them

Disney Hotel Fire Evacuation

Hotels at Walt Disney World, such as Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, prioritize the safety of their guests with stringent fire evacuation procedures. In the event of a fire evacuation, these hotels have established plans in place to ensure the swift and safe evacuation of all guests and employees.

These procedures typically involve clear and well-marked exit routes, fire alarms, and emergency lighting to guide individuals to safety. It is vital that guests follow these procedures. Photos can wait regardless of the seriousness of the evacuation.

What would you have done in this Disney hotel fire evacuation scenario? Would you have been as frustrated as this guest or simply pushed them aside as suggested? Here’s hoping everyone didn’t stress out too much and the fire department was able to arrive and verify the danger, or lack thereof.
