A hugely popular Walt Disney World Resort attraction unexpectedly closed down for reasons unknown.
It’s true that the Central Florida Disney parks are undergoing immense evolution. Across the 25,000-acre plus site, developments are underway to bring new attractions, lands, and experiences to—as Disney Experiences chairman Josh D’Amaro explained—the next generation of Disney theme park fans.
While D’Amaro also acknowledged that some fans feel personally attacked by the sweeping changes made to Walt Disney World–no confirmation on what the executive was referencing, but areas like World Celebration, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and the eradication of Frontierland as we know it, come to mind–and that Disney does not always get it right, the House of Mouse is charging ahead with developments in Magic Kingdom Park, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Magic Kingdom will receive its biggest expansion project in the five-decade-long history of the resort, with the Cars franchise and the Disney Villains coming to the Frontierland area of the park. As for Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios, the former will replace DinoLand U.S.A. with a new Tropical Americas-themed land called the Pueblo Esperanza, and the latter will eventually gain the company’s first Monsters, Inc.-themed roller coaster.
These are all coming down the pipeline, as are planned refurbishments, such as the extended and indefinite closure of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Frontierland. The coaster will go dark in early January 2025 and is slated to reopen sometime in 2026 with, as Disney says, “a little bit of new magic.”
Despite the extensive refurbishment plan, sometimes mysterious closures still happen at the Walt Disney World Resort. This was the case for the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover, which shut down unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 6. Reports confirmed that, even though nothing was listed on the official Disney World website, the PeopleMover was down and its entrance covered in tarps.
“Without any warning, black drapes surround the queue for the Tomorrowland Transit Authority People Mover (PeopleMover) attraction,” Kenny the Pirate reported. “The attraction did not open today for guests.” Cast members were reportedly redirecting guests away from the popular PeopleMover attraction, possibly to other Tomorrowland attractions like Space Mountain and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin.
At the time of writing, the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover is scheduled to open today, Thursday, November 7. On the Walt Disney World website, the gentle 10-minute ride is slated to open from 9 a.m. through 11 p.m., with Early Theme Park Entry guests able to ride from 8:30 a.m. through 9 a.m. when Magic Kingdom Park then opens to all guests.
